First off wrong catagoy, should not be under Carpet and Tile, that being said lets look at this from another angle.
These people really didn't pay good money for the work they had performed, they called five and six times a day, at night time, and wanted me to show up at midnight one night! One of them went so far as to start playing highschool drama queen and left me a voice mail saying "Whatever" then hung-up. If that wasn't they showed up at my house while I was out working on another job. This happened after many other events, I showed up more than once to find no one at the house, and the doors were locked. I called them on a few occations and asked when they would be back, during the time I was working very close by on another house and used that to fill in the time. After playing tag for a while I went ahead and scheduled more jobs so as to be able to pay my bills.
This job was bid during the winter time, slow season. These people were given a proposal that was good for 30 day's, months after the fact I had agreed to do the job anyhow for the same price. During that time cost of materials had gone up slightly. While trying to complete there job I was told I could not work a number of times do to there granddaughter being sick! I tied several times to come in and complete there REFINISH! There floor were naturally gapped from years of wear, moist and dry weather, installation methods used over 50 years ago so on and so forth. Using troul filler in that floor if used would create more problems than good! Eventually the filler will start cracking out, we will have a very moist summer where the flooring will swell back together and push the filler back up doing one of two things, crack the finish or in rare cases spread and cover the grain pattern. Yes other proffessionals do use toul filler on every job, is it a good idea?, Yes and No! Yes on a floor stapped accross the joices less than roughly fifteen to twenty years old. Not an an older floor that was nailed directly to the floor joices, or a floor nailed running the same way as the joices. This floor in question was nail directly to the joices as evidance by walking into the basement and seeing light through the floor at night.
I am not sure weather I missed any details about this job or not, I have been in business since august of 2005, I worked for another flooring company previous to that. I also did a lot of carpentry work prior to that with my grandfather and cousin. So saying "Seems to me that Mr Scoviak only learned how to do floors last year and Best Flooring is suffering because of it" is no where close to accurate. I contract a job, it usually takes me exactly how long I say it will, in some case its faster, in others it takes a little more time to complete do to reasons beyond my control or unforseen reasons. Most contractors raise there price when this happens. I do not raise my price although I do have that written into my contracts that customer or customers not Best Flooring pays any and all overages as a result of the job.
If you have any questions, feel free to call me at (608) 728-2378 (Best) I will be happy to ansewer them. As far as the people from this job are concerned they did not ever pay final payment, which is actually written into the contracts as becoming dew at anytime. Most jobs are half down half on completion, this one was broke into multiple payment to try and help you with affording the cost of the floor being refinished. Lucky for you Maple in more forgiving than most with pet stains, though in order to do it 100% write with staines that don't come out boards should be replaced. Board replacement is always time and material, unless bid into the job. I offered to do some of that for free! Buisiness was slow, time wasn't an issue at the time. Once you actually decided to go through with the job a few months later I was booking job like crazy. Then time was definately an issue. Busy season pays my bills, winter time equals make deals to get by for now time. Spring, Summer, and Fall are always busy. Winter Time is Deal Time. Do what you have to in order to keep going.
Any contractor or worker in any trade for more than five years most likely knose exactly what I am talking about and would agree with what I am saying. f not thats there right also. Anyone that reads this that lives around Janesville WI let me know you read this, I will discount my pricing on floor refinishing and you can be the judge of my work. I do have a website and actual photos of jobs I have completed in the past BestFlooring.net
This customer that wrote this report I am guessing knows they are actually in the wrong, they wouldn't even sign there name to this report, all I can say is call me and I'll finish the job, or take the cash from the final payment and have another contractor finish out the job. On the contract times are subject to change without notice to the customer'(S). Also this time if you give me a time I can be in there make sure it is a 100% set time. Not a you can't do it rightnow for whatever reason. Some of the equipment I use I do infact rent! Costing me money by the day. you go to work to make money, not break even. Robert T.
