I received an invitation in the mail to a "preferred customer appreciation sale" at the Thornton Carpet Exchange, to be held on Sept 22, 2011, from 4-8PM. In the invitation they stated "our store will be closed to the general public for this special private sale" and "you MUST bring this letter and present it at the door upon your arrival." They mention the words "PRIVATE SALE" numerous times in the invitation.
I called early in the afternoon of the 22nd, just to make sure this was truly a private sale, and was told the store was open until 8 PM. When I mentioned the private sale mailer, the person on the phone became abrupt with me, stated he didn't know how they planned to handle it, and put me through to the manager's voicemail. I called back a couple of hours later and spoke with the manager. She stated to me that they would never turn a customer away, that it would be rude. I responded that I never asked her to do that - it was their invitation that stated they were closed to the general public. I stated it was false advertising and she laughed at me and then sarcastically asked me if there was anything she could do for me. I said no, I just needed to know how they conducted business.
Consumers should know the way the Carpet Exchange in Thornton conducts business. I had planned to possibly have them replace all the carpet in my house and I am glad that I found out the way they operate before I had the chance to spend my money at their store.

Received a call from corporate office of Carpet Exchange. The person I spoke with was very polite, apologetic for the way I was treated, and stated he would be having a discussion with the manager from the Thornton store. He offered to assist me if I still wanted to shop at Carpet Exchange - I have already made other arrangements. He volunteered that their wording probably needs to be changed "a little."
