Received letter dated November 7, 2009 informing me that I was one of the declared winners of the Century Sweepstakes held September 5th 2009 in the 2nd category. It gave me a ticket serial number and the lucky winning number.

The letter stated they had made many unsuccessful attempts to contact me. Enclosed in the envelope was a check for $3980.00. The check looks legit, however, what caught my eye was the banks routing number. This number was only six digits. Most banks I have dealt with have nine. There are numerous fonts used on the check, which is not professional.

I called the number on the letter, 647-219-6315 and when a man answered, I asked for Lewis McGregor. The first man put me on "hold" and then came back on line. I asked if he was Lewis and he said yes. I told him I was calling about the letter and he put me on hold again. By this time, thinking this was a scam was certified.

Lewis proceeded to tell me, as it was noted in the letter, to deposit the $3,980.00 check into my account and call him as soon as it was deposited. In the letter it stated that this check is only the tax taken out of the larger winning amount of $50,000.00.
Lewis said that it was for taxes for the amount of $250,000.00. I even asked Lewis, "How do I know that this is legitimate?"  He stated that after I deposited the first check and call him, then the government will know I am paying the taxes and then he can send me the larger check by FedEX.

I looked up the bank on the check "Chestatee State Bank" and it is a legitimate bank, however, it's in Georgia. The address for Century Securities, Inc. on the check is 469 Lumpkin Campground Road S., Dawsonville, Ga 30534. Looking up Century Securities, Inc in Dawsonville, Ga produced no results. Trying to locate a Century Securities in Midland, Ontario also produced negative results. I couldn't even find a Main Street in Midland Ontario.

This Lewis McGregor, or whatever his real name is, has apparently been doing this scam for a couple of years now. He has gone through several different names for the company, not to mention several different banks. He is persistent and does not seem like he is willing to give up on his scam. As long as people fall for it he will continue to do so.
