I had a cell phone with Alltel.

My contract was about to be up on July 9th 2006 at midnight.

I did not want to resign my contract with Alltel due to so many problems that I had with them during the session of my contract.

When receiving my cricket phone on the 7th of July 2006 I was told to call this porting number to have my current number with Alltel ported to my new cricket phone so I wuldn't have to call and let everyone know that I had a new number.

I was never informed that porting my number 2 days before my contract was up ont he 9th of July that it would be ocnsidered breaking my contract.

Now why in the world would someone break their contract 2 days before it was up.

I was never under the inpression that thi was going to happen to me.

So, today,July 1th,I called to check and see how much my last bill was going to be with Alltel and a lady(Alltel Representative) informs me that I had been charged a $200.00 fee for breaking my contract 2 days before it was up by porting my number.

I feel this is not right and completely unjustified and would like to take action against this.

I appreciate any help that you can do to help me

#1 Consumer Suggestion

breaking the contract

AUTHOR: Don - Belleville (U.S.A.)

While not intentional, you did break the terms of the contract, and technically, the termination fee is valid. However, some cell companies have the option of buying out the remainder of your contract in the last month. If Alltell does not have that, ask for a supervisor, or customer relations.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

contact the attorney general's office

AUTHOR: Lee - Tucson (U.S.A.)

If i hear right this company was cell one before it changed to altel. check it out. while you do check also see if they still have on file a agreement to train their employees better. That may give you an edge to disolve the dispute. they were brutal with me so I fought back, and won. I am also in Tucson, Az and the store was on Oracle road.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

Alltel ; Usually a good company.

AUTHOR: Ashley - Bradenton (U.S.A.)

From what I have heard Alltel is a pretty good company.(And no,I'm not an employee.)

If you did not cancel your service early, you probably did not break your contract. They may have mistakenly thought that you were cancelling early.

Read your contract carefully or ask them to point out where it says that porting your number constitutes a breach of contract.

Number portability is the law.

Anytime you have a legitimate customer issue, you should write the company's corporate headquarters and explain what your complaint is and what you think would be a fair solution.

Be sure, in your letter, to explain that you were not cancelling early.

Also explain how their actions were unfair.

They should only charge, the lesser of the contract balance or the early termination penalty.

Always handle complaints in writing and ask for a written reply.

I know that this is a little late but I hope it can help.

Even the best companies make mistakes. But the best make less and promptly fix them when a customer lets them know.

Good Luck.
