I have been a follower/reader of Ripoff Report for several years and this is my first post. I will try to make this report clear and concise so that you, the consumer and fellow citizen can make an educated decision.

The Plot:
Today my son's iphone was stolen while he was at Pat's King of Steaks in Philly. A window washing guy swiped it while he was ordering.

The obvious next move:
We have insurance for our 3 phones (all iphones) and I went online to start the process. I was quickly directed to AT&T's insurance company, Asurion.

First Hiccup:
During the online form fillout process I discovered that the iphone was not readily available, so I opted out and decided to call directly.

I thought the following:
Buy insurance, phone stolen, report to insurance, get new phone immediately

WRONG! Here was and is the reality:
1. Have to fill out a long form and then get it notarized.
2. Provide copy ID.
3. Provide proof purchase. Well that receipt is gone.
4. Fax all to Asurion.

After doing that they then decide if the loss is covered. Oh, and NO WHERE online do they tell you that there is a deductible. This is the killer, it is $199.00! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Oh, and by the way, the device you receive is Refurbished! $199 for a refurbished device!

Oh my God what a SCAM. And you are correct, I did not thoroughly read the insurance when I purchased it at the AT&T store. Who does! So let me save you the time. Do not waste your money on AT&T device insurance.

No problem here

AUTHOR: Stacey - Dallas (U.S.A.)

Used Asurion last year when I by accident put my jacket in the wash with my cell phone in said jacket.  I got my refurbished phone for free less than a week later with no problem whatsoever.  Maybe my cell company is different than AT&T but I had nothing but a good experience with them.

Sorry that you had so many problems - probably would have been cheaper to buy a new phone. Once again sorry for what happened and NO I am not an employee.

I do believe you can't read.

AUTHOR: solid_boots - Moncton (Canada)

Sorry for the mean title, however in your report, you not only stated you never read the Terms of Service, which is always something you should do, but also claim "NO WHERE online do they tell you that there is a deductible." If I may ask, could you please go to http://phoneclaim.com/att and read the part labelled "Here's what to expect", as the fourth point is "Review deductible amount"

Thank you, and have a nice day
