I was serving in the Air Force in Alaska when I was transferred to Las Vegas. I had been a Cell-One customer for the 4 years I was stationed there. I knew that my time to move was coming so I applied for an extension to my orders and renewed my cell contract.
I contacted Cell-One who assured me that if my Military extension was denied, it would be simple to cancel the contract since the move would be not my choice, but forcibly enacted by the Air Force.
WRONG.
My extension was denied and I had to move to Las Vegas. Upon arriving, I found that Cell-One had NO COVERAGE in that area and roaming was terrible. I had to sign up with Sprint because I couldn't even use the phone to cancel!
When I called to cancel they would not cancel the contract. They said because I moved voluntarily I was still liable. I explained to them that I was moved due to orders but they didn't care. They said the only way I could cancel was if I was going to Iraq, which didn't make sense because that sort of a deployment is TEMPORARY and mine was NOT.
I spent the next FIVE MONTHS arguing with this with the company and sent them multiple copies of my Miltary Orders which they would "lose" or claim that they never received. They had me on the hook for 500 bucks!!
I finally had to work my way up the ladder until I got ahold of the secretary of the CEO Mr. DObson! I informed her that if Cell-One insisted on treating the Military like this my next call would be to my local news station.
The account was canceled 15 minutes later. This company is shameful in the way it treats servicemen.
