I purchased service with Verizon Wireless a year ago and was told that my phone was under warranty for a year. I recently added a line which renewed my contract. I was not told that once you renew your contract that it voids the warranty on your phone even if its less than a year old. They didn't tell me about this until I went back to replace phone because of a bad charger port. The service rep then tells me that my phone was not under warranty because of this. I think it is outrageous that the reps don't tell customers all of the info about service agreements and a phone that is less than a year old can't get replaced because I changed my plan.

What aren't you saying?

AUTHOR: Bikebryan - Alexandria (U.S.A.)

OK, so you had a phone your purchased less than a year ago. Fine.

Then you activated a new line and got a new phone. Fine.

That means you have two lines. Activating the new line in no way effects the existing line or voids the manufacturer warranty. The only thing that would do that is if you did damage to the original phone that would void the warranty.

Now if you are talking insurance, that would be different. If you had a phone insured and switched to a Customer Provided phone, that could cause the warranty to change.

Bottom line: as long as you can provide proof the phone is within 12 months of the date of purchase, it is covered under warranty IF they problem with the phone is a warrantable defect. Now you do have the receipt to show the purchase date, right? Don't say VZW should have it. It is not the merchant's responsibility to keep the proof of purchase, it is yours.

manufacter

AUTHOR: Realistic - Trenton (U.S.A.)

the one year warranty is through the manufacturer of the phone not through the cell service provider. company's will be the middle man for the manufater while your phone is active with said company but once deactivated your phone is still under original 1 year warranty but u have to go directly through the maker of the phone. contact the manufacturer and they will send you a return kit to ship them the phone and have it fixed. even if its out of warranty most manufactures will still repair or replace it for a charge. hope this helps

Manufacturer's Warranty

AUTHOR: Scooterk - LAurys Station (U.S.A.)

Unfortunatly, it sounds like there may have been some miscommunication here, probably on both sides of the counter.

While the manufacturer does have a one year warranty on the phone, there are parts that are considered 'high risk' (for lack of a better term). One of those is the charging port. If the charger is plugged into or removed from the phone incorrectly (i.e. - someone tried to plug it in upside-down or yanked the charger out of the phone) then the charging port becomes damaged and the manufacturer no longer considers it to be covered by the original warranty, instead saying that it has been physically damaged.

Another fairly common occurance is when a phone is used on multiple accounts. Again, the manufacturer, only covers the warranty for one year IF the same person owns the phone the entire year. If the phone moves to another person's name & account, the warranty is not longer in place.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

there is a 1 year manufacturers warranty

AUTHOR: Jeff - Missoula (U.S.A.)

ther is a 1 year manufacturers warranty on all phones, whether you renew or not, they cover manufacturers defects not damaged charging ports due to abuse. Just like on a televison if you break the plug they will not cover it. also if you think it is manufacture defect, and dont agree you can always send it to the manufacturer like lg motorla etc... to have it repaired since it is their warranty being honored.
