I bought a pay as you go phone from Virgin Mobile.  It was not explained to me that having an active account is separate from any minutes you buy.  So now I have a phone that is active until April 2010 with no minutes on it.  I bought a 1000 minute pack and still had 900+ minutes remaining on it.  But since I didn't buy more minutes, those minutes are gone.  What a rip off!!!

What is the point of buying 1000 minutes to get a better price, when you have to buy more minutes next month to not lose them.  These people know what they are doing. What Virgin Mobile is doing is ripping off the consumers. 

If you are looking for a reasonable priced phone and not using a lot of minutes, steer clear of Virgin Mobile and their rip offs.  Trackfone is much better.  Txxxx's (((REDACTED)))price is better.  If you buy a block of minutes from them, it automatically extends your service time.  With Txxxx(((REDACTED))), I have had better reception than on the Virgin Mobile piece of junk.

Read your terms

I'm assuming you did not read the terms of service on the phone you purchased? You just assumed that it worked how you wanted it to work. This is from the 1st page of their website on prepaid phones. They don't hide this information from the customer:

CHOOSE A 30-DAY MINUTE PACK OR GO WITH OUR 20¢/MINUTE BASIC RATE.

MINUTE PACKS EXPIRE 30 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE. UNUSED MINUTE PACK MINUTES ROLL FORWARD (UP TO 5000) IF YOU TOP-UP AND CHOOSE A MINUTE PACK PRIOR TO THE 30TH DAY. ADDITIONAL MINUTES ARE 20¢ EACH. TOP-UP $20 EVERY 90 DAYS (EVEN IF YOU HAVE A BALANCE) TO KEEP YOUR SERVICE ACTIVE.
