If you are ever contacted by Michelle Dossey, do not call her or go see her without an attorney present. Earlier this year my niece had a bruise from a fall and Michelle came out to the school and interviewed her. She contacted my sister to come see to her office the next day. When my sister went to see her she told her how my niece was out playing with her siblings and had fallen off her bike. That's how she had scrapes on her elbow and knee. Michelle said she was going to close the case.

My sister thought everything was over until 2 days later she gets a call from Michelle wanting her to take parenting classes and finding her responsible for abuse. We were never able to retrieve any documents because Michelle said we were not allowed to see them. Long story short don't deal with Michelle Dossey without a lawyer present or a tape recorder. She is the biggest lier ever.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

there's more to this

AUTHOR: Cat - Hendersonville (U.S.A.)

First off , you know someone made a cal to CPS as they just don't out of the blue show up at a school. So she had to come interview the child,

Secondly, this worker has a supervisor , so have you contacted her/him? If not I would do that. Did this case go in front of a judge?

Thirdly, I've taken several parenting classes and I also have taught them, so there is always something to learn as a parent. Why does that offend your sister and how does that make this lady a bad caseworker? It does not sound as though she took her out of the home..

Sounds like a call to the CPS supervisor is in order if you think she lied. Work with them not against them, you will get answers faster that way. Is there a Casa Advocate involved? If not see if you can get one involved. That might help! Good luck!

#2 Update By Author

The supervisor was involved...

AUTHOR: Julie - Denver (U.S.A.)

It did not go to court this Dossey lady 'found" her responsible. This stays on my sister's record for life with DHS. My sister did go see her supervisor and nothing was done because Ms. Dossey denied ever telling my sister the case was closed or that she believed my sister. All I'm doing is warning other people not to talk with her alone. I was talking about this ordeal with a friend not long ago and his cousin had an incident with Ms. Dossey too but everybody's so afraid to go against her because of where she works. I just want people to be aware, that's all.

#3 Consumer Comment

uninformed and misconceived

AUTHOR: Concerned Citizen - Denver (U.S.A.)

I appreciate that you want to stick up for your sister, but as the prior commentor stated, there is often more to the story. The state law is that if you discipline your child or intentionally or unintentionally injure your child in anger or action other than play, etc. it is child abuse. This is also true in the majority of states in America. The fact that it is abuse by law does not mean that on a daily basis one is abusive - simply even one incident may rise to this finding. Also - MANY cases are closed by caseworkers - it doesn't mean abuse did not occur. As the other writer indicated you and your sister should appreciate that your sister's child was not removed - rather she was made aware this was a concern and her case was closed --- indicating that the caseworker felt that overall her child was safe and could remain in her home without further services. The supervisor and caseworker as simply acting on the laws put in place by the legislature - if you take issue with what is defined in law as abuse - write them! If the caseworker is doing their job, the supervisor really had no other choice but to support them in supporting what the law is. Oftentimes --- family members only get part of the story from their family members -- consider the fact that all social services cases go thru a caseworker, supervisor, and child protection team review == if your sister really felt she was wronged - she also has the right to appeal to the state! Did she do this? Did she tell you about the letter she got explaining her rights and giving her the form to simply fill out and mail in to appeal if she felt she was somehow falsely accused or founded on? Please understand this - a one time incident of founded physical abuse could happen to ANY of us -- the law is very clear - a minor injury to a child warrants a finding - it does not remove children from the home or mandate services. Please be balanced and fair in you representations. Your sister obviously made a mistake - one MANY parents have made -- and to reiterate - as the other writer stated, she still has her children and her case with social services is CLOSED!
