Yes, you were scammed, this outfit is nothing but a fraud and your money is gone.
Unfortunately, god nor anyone else will probably get even with them as long as there are poor pathetic suckers like you around.
I cannot for the life of me understand why you wouldn't give your money to a local church trying to help people in your community if you think you need to give money to anyone.
I've received mailing from this ridiculous outfit and their mailings are actually pretty hilarious, like a comic book. Why people get sucked in by them is amazing to me.

without helping yourself 1st. If you cant afford to send money don't. If you can, consider this a learning experience. Next time give locally that way you know who to give the a**beatin too if there's fraud.

This has been a known scam for at least 30+ years...
Im 53 and I knew about this scam in my teen years.
The reality is that even then, it was always advised to not give $$ via mail to any setup that you dont verify first.
To have given $$ for decades without verifcation is foolish no matter what the faith is.
Always verify where your money goes.
