IDC is definitely a ripoff; buyer beware. I am writing this post not to receive compensation for being ripped off but to instead prevent others from being ripped off.
In the newspaper I received IDC's advertisement for duct cleaning with free dryer vent cleaning for $55. I have two furnances which would come to $110. I checked out the internet site and it seemed like a legitimate company.
When the technician finally arrived it was bait and switch time. I say finally as it took three attempts for the technician to arrive. First he had a car accident, second time he said he came and called but didn't leave a message and the third time he arrived 30 minutes after he said he would and that required call the 1-800-209-2985 number.
From what I can tell they have a pattern of questions to ask. They start with when was the last cleaning done, do you have allergies, etc.. they then say you should have duct cleaning done every year and show you the filter which is of course is dirty. They have by this time already started the vacuum cleaning of the vents. One guy does the furnance and sale's pitch and the other does the vacuum work.
The sale's pitch I received is that you really need to have air duct brushing and vacuuming done. I have since found out that you should always have both done so don't respone to adds like this one; instead look at full service price which includes vacuuming and brushing of the internal air duct. The extra brushing for two furnances with Sanitizers and replacement filters was verbally priced at $1200. This price included $450 ($225 each) for the Biocides/Sanitizers. Since everything in your house is torn apart, you will feel compelled to just agree with the additional cost. I initially said yes to the price of $1200 stating it seemed a bit high and the technician replied it was the going rate. I checked and found I could get the same services for around $280 (replacement filters would cost another $45 each) for a total of $370. I checked 3 vendors and priced from $280-$300 for services plus extra cost for filters. IDC was charging me $1200 (3 times higher if you include filter cost). I explained this to the IDC technician and told him I didn't want the $450 Sanitizer special. He came back and tried to sell me the filters for $150 on top of the $750 I was obligated to pay for the duct cleaning. I said no. He ended up doing the sanitization and said I would receive the filters for the price of $750.
That's still twice the price of three other duct cleaning vendors I checked with. Don't buy from IDC, they will rip you off.
