I received an email message from ALC today about one of their "SPECIAL OFFERS" and was livid to find that my email address was displayed publically (along with 1,677 other people) in the "TO:" field, rather than masking addresses by putting them in the "BCC:" field.
I immediately called the contact number listed on the email (253-759-3737) to complain and the attitude was, well, I am sorry but the email is already sent, so what do you want me to do about it?
Her tone softened when I reminded the woman about client information being PRIVATE and that I now had the email addresses of 1,677 of her other laser hair removal clients. I told her that I might be less furious if I had a benign email address such as skittlebunny123@xyz.com but my email is MY FIRST AND LAST NAME. And I didn't appreciate having my name publically broadcasted to 1,677 complete strangers!
I asked her how this could possibly happen and she apologized that this was the first time she had sent email advertising to clients and that she had probably did something wrong. (Ya think??) She said she sent ALC's list of client email addresses to a third party and the message was sent out by them, not actually by ALC. Which explains why the email message was masked as being from a person named Debbie@PovertyBites.com. What the hell the site povertybites.com has anything to do with ALC.. I have no idea.. other than maybe they're acknowledging that poverty bites because you have to be friggin RICH to afford American Laser Center's laser hair removal services.
I don't know what kind of a 2nd hand operation these people are running. Clearly client confidentiality is NOT a priority to American Laser Center.
