In February 2007, I ordered a dress from the online store www.creaturesofcomfort.us, which is the website of the Los Angeles business Creatures of Comfort.

When I tracked my package via Fedex a couple of days later, I saw that it had made its way out of the store and basically went missing. I called Creatures of Comfort, and was told by the woman who picked up the phone that she would speak to the owner, Jade Lai, and call me back.

Upon calling me back, I was assured that I would receive a full refund and that the matter would be resolved. I was confident they would do this.

A month later, I noticed that my credit card hadn't been reimbursed yet. I called the store yet again, and was told that Jade knew about my situation. I left a message and was assured that it would probably take a month to resolve with Fedex, but that Jade would refund my money.

I followed up a month later by phone, and was told that I would have to speak to Jade. I left several messages, and she never called me back. At this point, I had already e-mailed Jade many times asking her to please give me an update on the situation and keep me posted, as $300 isn't something I can lose easily.

Jade never responded to me. Stupidly, I had trusted her and allowed the time for me to issue a chargeback on my credit card to lapse. I called American Express to see if there was anything else they could do. Then I called Fedex, who told me that Jade had gotten HER money for the lost package, and that was that.

I've since reported this store to the Better Business Bureau, but I want others to know that Jade Lai is a thief who has no qualms about taking advantage of people.

Enjoy my hard-earned $300, Jade. I hope what you did to me comes back to you ten-fold.

Finally resolved - more than a year later

My situation with Jade Lai has finally been resolved - thanks entirely to this website.

Yesterday, I received a refund and a letter of apology after Jade saw my complaint.

While I ultimately appreciate that she finally did the right thing, I find it sad that it took writing something on this site - not months of e-mails, phone calls and a complaint filed with the BBB - to finally get her to give me the time of day.
