My husband and I are in the process of buying a house.

We were looking at some things that needed to be cleaned up or questioned.

Palisades Collections was listed as if we owed a balance of $123.05 for an AT&T account.

My husband called the number listed for them and ofcourse they showed a balance of that amount. Big mistake on their part, they gave him the phone number in question. I had bad feelings about this and decided to do a little research with a well known company "AT&T Wireless".

I called AT&T Wireless and had them look up the number. It belonged to a different person at the time in question. There was also a $0.00 balance on that account. The customer service rep looked at the past 3 owners of that number, none of them with our last name.

I then had her look up our last name on all accounts to see if there was anything that we did not know about. She found nothing. There were no accounts with our last name and first names.

According to Palisades Collections this account was opened in 2001. With the account not being that old, I'm sure our names would have popped up somewhere. I have tried to contact the Palisades Collections company but am now getting a funny busy signal.

As of right now our plan is to write to all three credit report companies and give them this information. He is also thinking about filing a complaint with consumer's affairs.

Please give us advice as to what we can do to get this matter taken care of.

We were just harrassed by another credit agency claiming we owed a debt, when it came down to it, they had the wrong person with a totally different SS#. The called my husband's work, called his parents and threatened to ruin his military career. I am tired of these collection companies taking advantage of we the people!

Collection is a scary thing. I wonder how many people pay for these debts that don't even belong to them just because these collection people threatened them.
