My husband had a SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District) electric bill of approx. $150 that he neglected to pay. When I found out he owed this, I paid this bill in FULL in 05/04. This bill was in his name only. This collection agency has ruined MY credit by recently putting this bill on my credit (within the last 30 days) and claiming that it is an outstanding collection as of January 2007!
I disputed this with Experian & they state it has been "verified" as correct by Professional Recovery Services of San Jose, CA. SMUD will do nothing to help me, but they have sent me a letter stating it was paid in full in 05/04.
This collection agency is willfully violating FCRA laws by unlawful re-aging this account and also reporting this information on my credit report when my name has NEVER been on the original account. Meanwhile my credit is suffering and Experian refuses to remove the incorrect information until 06/2013.
