Afni Ripoff Fraudulent Collection notice for Verizon Account Bloomington Illinois

It looks like this company has just sent a batch of fraudulent or outdated collection notices dated Jan 2, 2007. Ours is for a telephone that from a web search belongs to a TANNING SALON AND NAIL PARLOR in Lake Elsinore, CA, of all ridiculous things! It is for an area code where we never lived for a phone number we never had. We've never even had a Verizon account!

Thanks to all who have posted advice on how to NOT call Afni but instead to hit them with a written notice to prove their collection. I am very disappointed that Verizon does not seem interested in getting to the bottom of this, since it is being pointed to as the originator of these "accounts". They are either being conned as well as us consumers or they are complicit in this scheme by way of their complacency. Either way, I sure will not use their services in the future.

As for Afni, they should be ashamed of themselves for engaging in something no less heinous than an organized and incorporated phishing scheme. In this case they are probing for our information to pin erroneous or past SOL debts on whoever might be scared enough to pay up.

Though suing Afni for damages would bring some satisfaction, I fear that any money gained would only be the ill-gotten, dirty proceeds from the same type of extortion they are attempting on me. They should be shut down and any money obtained from their collection efforts should be disgorged and sent back to the consumers who were so callously taken by them.
