American Agencies is NOT a real company!
They bought my credit report and found a debt from 3 years ago I had with A local Hospital. I went to the Hospital and spoke with the billing department and they told me that they DO NOT USE American Agencies. But have been receiving complaints about this same scam. They gave me the name of the only collection agency they have used in the past 7 years. I phoned them and was told that American Agencies is a scam. I figured that one of their old employees moved over to American Agencies and took my old account with them to sell it. He denied that occured, but it seems to make sense in how random this is happening to people.
Then he told me that creeps like American Agencies pay a fee online to get your social and credit reports.
American agencies contacted me via physically showing up and leaving a note at my Po Box. I phoned them to ask what was going on and they proceeded to tell me I owe them thousands. Total BS! That's when I called the original creditor and found out about this scam.
I'm meeting with the Police and others tomorrow reporting this scam.
I want to file a class action suit ASAP. Contact me if your interested. It might be tough because they are not even a valid company. Just a family of scummy mexicans trying to take our money. Anybody ever stupid enough to pay this scam artist?

You are misinformed on how this works.
American Agencies obviously purchased the old hospital bill. This is common practice. Therefore, the hospital will no longer be able to give you any more info on the account as they SOLD IT!
When your charged off account is sold, your entire file goes with it, which includes your SS#, and other information like your date of birth and address, employer, etc.. The only thing that does not go is your medical history.
They do not buy your SS# off the internet nor do they buy your credit report.
All collection agencies subscribe to 1 or more credit bureaus and 1 or more investigative services for purposes of skip tracing.
They can pull this information themselves anytime they like. Perfectly legal.
Now, if they are not licensed to do collections, file charges with the State. Do you know how to determine if they are licensed or not?
Or are you just assuming they are not?
Knowledge is power. Go to the FTC site and get some valuable info.

I was telling you how it works as you did not understand.
You are very confused as to the way things work.
When people offer you help you should accept it.
I have been dealing with these issues for a very long time.
Go to www.budhibbs.com to learn about debt buyers and illegal and unethical collectors.
The FTC will NOT go after them, as there is no individual enforcement on any one consumer complaint. The FTC waits until it gets so many complaints and then decides to investigate.
If you feel they are illegal, send them a certified letter and request a copy of a collectors license, and just dispute the debt in writing to.
There is a certain way this has to be handled or they will get a judgement against you.
