Back in July of 2005 I was left a phone message saying I should call Anderson Crenshaw & Associates on an important matter. After hearing the name I assumed this was some law firm contacting me. So I wrote down the phone number and called them the following day from my cell phone.

After speaking with a collector I was informed that they were collecting a debt for a company called Security Dealer Funding in the amount of $1400. After a few questions are was quite obvious this was a scam or a mistake. I had an alarm installed going back about 5 years ago but then cancelled the service after about a year and half after getting installed. I was never billed after cancelling my contract.

I soon contacted the original alarm company to find out was the problem was. They explained that they could not do anything because Security Dealer Funding buys alarm service contracts from Alarm installation companies. So they own the contract.

I then contacted the collector and asked for a copy of the contract and I also wanted to know how he arrived at this $1400 amount. This was the beginning of the harassment. He refused to send me a copy of the contract and would only say the owed amount was for the alarm. This began several months of phone calls to my home and Cell phone. Even after I explained the cell phone was used for business they continued to call. They threaten to take me to court and ruin my credit.

After several months 2-3 phone calls a week I took action by sending a registered letter to only contact me in writing. I also advised them the statue of limitations had expired on any contract even if it was valid which is was not.

Eventually, the calls stopped but the negative collection information is still on my credit report. I not sure what I can do to have this removed. It is obviously a built market that has been created in the collection industry. It seems unbelievable that these types of companies can affect your good credit and threaten people out of their money.

Please stay informed of your rights and do everything you can to fight these rip off artists.
