I have been harassed everyday for 6 months by a Brandy Meeks at NCO financial. I hate to admit that she bullied me into making a payment because I was afraid of what she would do to my credit report. The amount of times I have been verbally threatened are too numerous to mention. Today she called my employer and used false information to get my work number. The very frightening thing is that she has information about me that can not be found on the internet. As a matter of fact, one day after I emailed someone this information, she contacted my employer and me with said info!! When I questioned how she got this information, I was told that "She knows everything about me", and "She even know how much money you have in your back account....I am good aat my job and I know everything about you!" I honestly believe she hacked my email account as there is no way she could have known this very accurate information. Oh, and of course she threatened me with a warrant for me arrest...sigh!

At any rate, I actually canceled my bank account so she could no longer have this information and I am at a lose as to what to do next. I am contacting the NY State DA, the DA in N. Carolina, the FTC and the BBB, but I can't imagine giving NCO another dime. They have never verified the debt, but as I said, I did make a few payments as I was concerned about my credit report. I obviously regret that but I was in distress as I was out of work for 7 months and then just fractured my back...all which I tried to explain but Brandi told me that she's got three kids to feed and she doesn't care about anything but me paying my bills! HA!!

Although I made a few mistakes with the company, I tend to right them but I need to know my next step...By stating personal information that could not be found anywhere on the internet or through harrasment of my family, Ms. Meeks made a very big mistake!

Any information would be very much appreciated!!

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Deal with the Original Creditor

AUTHOR: Jen - Eatontown (U.S.A.)

North Carolina is a sattelite office. The main HQ is in Horsham PA and chances are they will bounce you from state to state.

#1) Demand that NCO validate the debt, including evidence they are legally entitiled to collect it.

#2) Call the original creditor and see if any of the money you paid was actually used to reduce the bill. If not, you have valid damages and another issue to complain about. Tell the original creditor you will pay (if the debt is legally collectible), but only to them - not to this disreputable.

#3) Report to the FTC

#4) Because you beleive they hacked your account, I would report to www.ic3.gov - Internet Crimes Reporting. I never heard complaints about hacking of emails and I think they may have phished for info and maybe got someone on the phone tricking them into revealing information. I just don't see these collectors at NCO being that bright. They like to lie, phish, and intimidate consumers.

I would also go to www.naca.org and get in touch with a lawyer.

How to Prevent Yourself Getting Hacked

AUTHOR: Dk28q3 - Dk28q3 (U.S.A.)

This report is quite upsetting to read as it seems like a truly avoidable situation. There are a lot of people out there who are willing and know how to hack people's passwords, logins and god knows what else though. They are especially dangerous when on the same wireless network as you. I have been writing a blog which I hope will educate people about how to avoid getting hacked - there are step by step guides, and what a hacker would be trying to do, so that you can read and learn to counteract the attack by understanding them. I hope it serves some use to people out there: http://hackingforwindows.blogspot.com If you have any questions or problems you can also post there and we will try to help you out as best we can.

This advice would be good, if she was still within the 30 day window to ask for a validation. Additionally, since she made a payment the debt is considered valid.

Now, personal information? trust me, you would be surprised how much information is on the internet. Its scary. She probably didn't have to hack anything to get the information.

#2) Call the original creditor and see if any of the money you paid was actually used to reduce the bill. If not, you have valid damages and another issue to complain about. Tell the original creditor you will pay (if the debt is legally collectible), but only to them - not to this disreputable.

If NCO has the debt, then the original creditor has already written it off. They sold the debt to NCO and its owed to them now.

The hacking is the biggest thing in this report. I would definately report that to the various government agencies. Also, you need to start keeping notes on the phone calls you have with her. if she is threatening you with being arrested, that is a violation of the Fair Debt Collections Act.... Also, they cannot call you at work if you tell them to stop. They cannot call you after 8pm. Google it, make them stick to the rules.

The big question is, Is this a legitimate debt that you owe? You don't say.
