    ...the right way!
    Corporate Advocacy Program
On 12/21/07 I received a letter from NCO Financial stating that I should take advantage of their offer to settle an account for "CHASE/ASSIGNEE OF PROVI..." for the amount of $7116.54. I was further instructed to use the handy payment coupon to make my payment (in 3 monthly installments, for my convenience.) I was also given the option to pay online at www.ncofinancial.com.

I have filed a fomal complaint with the U.S. Postmaster General, because this letter came to me through the U.S. Mail. I will also notify my state's Attorney General's office, as well as the local television and radio stations.

I urge you all to do the same.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Don't waste time

AUTHOR: Jim - Anytown (U.S.A.)

On those complaints, they will likely do you no good. NCO is one of the bottom feeder junk debt buyers looking to cash in on an old debt. It may or may not even be yours.

That said, you first need to request validation of this alleged debt to make them prove that it is, in fact, yours. Also, if it is yours and old, you need to check the statute of limitations on debt collection in your state. Every state has different periods under which a debt can be legally collected via a court judgement.

You can find all of the information on what to do at budhibbs.com web site.

Already done....We'll see if it's a waste of time.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

I would add one thing.

AUTHOR: Robert - Buffalo (U.S.A.)

I would also DISPUTE this debt as well. The reason for disputing the debt (in writing) is so that you may take advantage of the Fair Credit Reporting Act to obtain free credit reports to make sure that this matter is not on your credit reports. The FCRA, under certain conditions allows you to receive 2 free credit reports during a 12 month period. This is in addition to the free annual reports.

You can read the FCRA ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcradoc.pdf

Good luck.
