I am absolutely floored and feel like someone totally riped me off with my hopes to have my hospital bill taken care of, or at least a good part of it.
I was in Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for a heart attack that occurred while I was at Yellowstone Park. I am uninsured and devastated knowing this hospital bill will be huge. I asked to talk to a social worker and she said I didn't qualify for any local assistance since I was out of state. She said there was an independent agency that can help with financial assistance.
Michelle Horton came in, a NCO representative, and told me there was a medical assistance just for people like me that were out of state and that they could probably write off the whole amount of my hospital bill. I was absolutely delighted! My helicopter flight out of Yellowstone itself cost $13,000.00. But I didn't know that at the time.
Anyway, there was something odd about her but I couldn't put my finger on it. I just hoped she was right. I felt relieved and told my family that I can probably qualify for this assistance. She did not mention money in any way. I guess that's what I thought might be suspiscious. Or maybe too good to be true. But she said it and I believed her. She gave me a instruction sheet which said I needed to send all of this information to them. I sent them last years federal tax return and a copy of my last pay stub. NCO is a collection agency!! What the hell! No body in their right mind would send their personal information to a collection agency!
I was totally lied to! Now, they respond back to me saying I am denied any charity discount because I exceed the Federal Poverty Charity Guidelines. And they demand full payment Now! I didn't work for a month because of the heart attack. I just started a new job prior to going to Yellowstone and had only been orienting. I'm only a 2 to 3 days a week person anyway. I am not married. My income is way down from last year. I am absolutely flabbergasted that they snookered me this way. This is Fraud!
