I received a letter from NCO Financial Systems on July 24 stating that they purchased my account from Chase Providian.

I called immediately and got some guy that said this was from an account that was active from 1992 to 1994. I asked why it took so long to notify me and he said, in what I thought was a snippy tone, that they collect on accounts older than that. I also told him that I never had a Chase Providian account. He then told me I needed to write them for verification.

That night I found this website (thankfully!) and was infuriated after reading all of the reports about this company. Someone posted a letter that I used to not only ask them for validation of the account, but also told them to f*** off in a nice and legalese way. I also filed complaints with the FTC, Post Office, and State Attorney General. None of which I would have done had it not been for the information posted on this website.

They never replied back to me. BUT, and this is very important, the California State Attorney General's office contacted me (by letter) and said that they would write to the company and inform them of my complaint.

The other day (Nov. 3rd) I received a letter from the Attorney General's office and a copy of the reply letter to them from NCO Financial. It said essentially that they received my dispute letter and closed the account. Of course, they NEVER told me that. But filing the complaint with the Attorney General's office certainly got results.

So the point is send letters, don't talk to them, especially if the thing is bogus. There are plenty of cease and desist letters to be fond by using Google. And it's always good to have the documentation in the form of a letter. AND FILE THE COMPLAINTS WITH THE FTC, POST OFFICE, YOUR STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL (all to be found on the internet).
