My co-worker called me at home saying NCO Financial Systems has been calling me there. They left a number, which I called, and the woman - no -the SCAM ARTIST there pretended she could not find my account (to put a note in it) after I told her I was requesting they stop harassing me at work. She said "if I cannot find your account, you cannot request we stop contacting you." She said that I am late on a loan payment, which is crap because I have proof, and even called my loan company to verify, that I am actually paid ahead on my account. This is nothing but a scam to try to get money from me. I am writing a certified letter telling them to stop all contact with me. If they don't, I will file a harassment and fraud lawsuit on them.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

ASK THE LOAN COMPANY FOR HELP AND REPORT LOGICALLY

AUTHOR: Jen - Eatontown (U.S.A.)

This is common practice to phish for information. NCO will pretend they can't find a file and demand personal information.

Don't give them anything and don't communicate with them.

#1) Tell the employer you will not accept their calls and let them know this is some kind of SCAM. Depending on where you work. If you work for a financial institution, or in a company that deals with security or a lot of personal information that requires bonding of employees, they may require you provide a letter from the lender stating you are not past due on your account.

#2) Get a letter from your lender confirming the account is not past due and NCO is not contract to collect any money from you. This will give the consumer agencies fuel to fight.

#3) Report them to the FTC

#4) Report them to the PA Attorney General

#5) Report them to your states Attorney General

#6) Ask the lender to assist you in stopping this SCAM.

If they do not stop harassing you at work, go to www.naca.org and look for an attorney in your state. They offer free consultation to help you protect your job.

NCO = Not Competent Organization

AUTHOR: Jace - Chicago (U.S.A.)

That's so stupid it's funny.....NCO telling you 'if I cannot find your account, you cannot request we stop contacting you.' As if you're somehow responsible for their disorganization.

Their debt collectors are so incompetent it's frightening. One of my former employers received nasty letters from NCO regarding an electric bill that was supposedly unpaid from 2 years prior. I did a little digging and found a copy of the canceled check, which I faxed to NCO. They then called me, accusing me of creating a bogus cancelled check and threatening to have me arrested. I couldn't stop laughing, hearing all of their empty threats, which not only were a clear violation of federal law (the FDCPA) but also had no basis in reality. I couldn't resist telling them that NCO stands for "Not Competent Organization". They haven't called me back since.

NCO does not care

AUTHOR: tailer - Poulsbo (USA)

I had a credit card account that was sent to NCO.  They left all sorts of messages on my phone and I kept every one of them.  We filed BK and they continued to call 47 times even after I told them of the BK filing.  I got an attorney and they just now agreed to a settlement.  I am not getting much but at least I have the satisfaction that I took action against them and won.

One thing that I learned from reading these boards is to never talk to them.  Any info you give them, they will use against you.  So if they are still bothering you find an attorney and file a suit against them.

they can find your account

AUTHOR: rosecash09 - Norcross (United States of America)

1) on their system, the FACS based Ontario system, they can look for your account many ways:
   a) phone#
   b) SS#
   c) Address (333 Lucky Circle)
   d) your last name
The person that told you that she could not find your account was, simply put, a liar.
Call back, ask for a manager and talk to them.
