I recently aquired a copy of my credit report and discovered a bill for $844 dollars,It was issued by AT&T wireless. For one I have never had an account with AT&T and for two,I had been incarcerated and had been for some time when this account was started.I just happened to come across this web site while trying to find a way to contact these people.I would like info on how I can get this issue resolved.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Fraud report

AUTHOR: Don - Belleville (U.S.A.)

As you do not mention anything here about a collection agency in your post, I would think the easiest way to get rid of this would be to file a fraud report. If you were incarcerated at the time the account was started, it would be difficult to start cell phone service. As you have not mentioned a collection agency, I would recommend filing a fraud report, first through AT&T, then through the police if neccessary.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Once again, DON gives bogus advice!..Timothy..Do this..

AUTHOR: Steve - Bradenton (U.S.A.)

Timothy,

Forget the fraud report! This is a big hassle and it restricts your credit files and will be a headache for you to apply for credit in the future.

Just dispute the "debt" to all credit bureaus for reason "not my account". DEMAND to see something you signed to create the account.

Send a DEBT VALIDATION request to Palisades and DEMAND to see something you signed to create the account, as well as an account history.

STAY OFF THE PHONE!! And..Send everything by certified mail, return reciept requested. Be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself, and keep a copy for your records.

Forget AT&T. They most likely sold the account to Palisades, therefore they cannot legally speak to you about it or provide any information on the alleged account.

This will get you started.

ps..I have almost 20 years dealing with this stuff and have beaten every collector and attorney who has ever come after me. Don has been in the business less than a month!

Your choice!
