UCB is unbelievable. I'm so fed up with their abuse that I am making a complaint at the Illinois attorney generals office. My husband and I are a new couple starting out. We come from a rural town where jobs are hard to come by. He was trying to finish college and move on. So money has been tight. Not to mention we ended up with a little suprise-a baby girl. Once he finally graduated he took whatever step was necessary to come up with a steady pay check to get our head out from under water and get us functioning again. So he decieded to take the plunge and join the military. It was a very brave step. He's only been gone since the end of October. He's been in basic training and has been training for the position they gave him. I'm not sure if you know much about that stuff-but they really don't allow much contact with the recruits until after their training is complete. Sometimes training takes six months or more-but it's worth it in the long run. While he's gone I've had to wait almost two months for the first pay check to come in, hoping and praying for our heat and water not to be shut off. It's pretty cold in Illinois during the winter months. And when that first check finally came I had almost 3 months of bills to catch up with. And priorities first. I have a baby at home that I have to provide heat, water, and shelter for. During this time we got way behind on paying our debt. We'd been living pay check to pay check for quite some time. It's going to take time for us to catch up so we can get ahead of the curve. Here's where UCB comes in. They call me EVERY DAY demanding outragous amounts of money from me on bills that were my husbands before we were ever married. I know they're mine now too since we did get married. But there's nothing I can do but wait. When he finishes in a few months he gets a sign on bonus for joining the military. I was going to use that money to pay off a lot of those debts-specifically the one UCB keeps calling me about. They know I plan on doing this, and yet they wont let me just pay what I can until then. So instead they've threatened me telling me they don't want me to have them take care of it for us, and that they can't believe someone like my husband is serving our country, and that I'm a bad wife. They've lied to me and told me my interest would keep going up, even though the account is closed. They've threatend to call my husband to court, and when he cant come because he's in basic that they'd have an arrest warrant for him. They've said if the money isn't in my account when they make a dumby check to take what they want out, that they would file check fraud and that it would be on my husbands records and that he'd have to take an 8 hour class about it. They've threatend to call my husbands cheif. They've called my husbands relatives and left their number with them, and they don't even have the same last name as us. I could go on and on. The best part is that they never even told me who they were, just who they were collecting the debt for. I had to call the company I had the debt with and see who they sent my file to so I could get their name. They have me so stressed out. I just lost my dad in a freak accident when he was only 50 years old, and had to practically take care of all his arrangements myself, and his personal property because he just got devorced-that was on August 30th of 08'. Then on October 28th of 08' my husband had to leave us for boot camp. I'm rasing my daughter all by myself, struggling to make it-and this is the crap I have to deal with. Don't they know that it is counter productive to treat people like that. And it's not like my debt affects their life personally. Is it a job requirement to be an asshole to work at UCB? Or is everyone that works their just naturally a jerk? My husband is a wonderful man, no matter any amount of money. And I stand by my man-that makes me a good wife. And for everyone that is mean that works there. I just hope Karma is just a myth, because if what goes around really does come around-than the future is not pretty for you after how you treat people you don't even know or know what they're going through in their life.
