I started the UOP online classes about three years ago it was a high pressure salesman online he would call me at least three times a day and give long uplifting speeches about how I could finish my degree in nursing and move to a higher place in my profession. After saying no for a month I did indeed sign up for classes that's when the craziness began. While I did sign the contract I never thought it was a scam until two months ago then bam right in the face. I have been to collage before and I depended on the advisor to know what I needed and to give me correct information, boy was I wrong. I am a financial aid student and everything was paid through loans that I recieved the cost 44,000 dollars and now I do not even have a degree and I am told because I didn't finish the program I owe the school another 4000 dollars. I finished all the core nursing classes and have above a 3.5 GPA. But they added classes electives to my course work which was told to me just a few months before I thought I was to be done, at this time I asked my advisor if I could take these classes elsewhere and I was told yes but to be sure they were upper division classes. But I guess I got lazy or something so I allowed them to choice my clasess and in the end I started the electives but couldn't complete them due to work restraints, I called both the advisors and was told if you quit you will owe 355. dollars for four days of class but again I was not told if you drop out you will owe for the rest of the classes a total of 4000 dollars. My educational advisor told me I could test out of theses classes for two hundred dollars through another online school and after thinking long and hard I would rather pay two hundred to complete my degree then to again pay 1,500 for these classes through the UOP. But was I wrong again my financial advisor stated if I didn't complete all courses I would owe the school and that they would sent back my financial aid to the lenders and this would be my cost out of pocket. OH yes I forgot to mention they sent me checks a few months before this the amount was 4000 dollars then they sent me a e-mail stating they over paid me and I would have to pay 1,600 dollars for my last 2 unit class. Well I am now really confused and I have filed a complaint with the Better Business but the university would not give them information and they sent me a web site so I could release information but again the web site wouldn't work. So to recap I owe 44,000 thousand dollars for no degree and I owe the school 4,000 dollars out of pocket for costs to the school and I have tried to understand where they have come up with this out of pocket cost so I have talked to a supervisor but maybe I am stupid but it makes no sense to me. They have recently me a letter that states I could chose to pay UOP or the department of education so I called the department of education to set up a payment plan and they knew nothing, so I called the rude financial advisor and also e-maied her and she told me to forward thier letter because it was wrong. Through this school expercience I have been so confused when asked to clear everything up I recieved coflicting information. I am tired of the craziness and would like my degree but never again form a school like this they do not give up front information they are a shady group. I would love to see if a class action suite can be started because I will be the first in line.
