The Internet and Capella have a lot in common the internet enable people to write and say whatever they want to say, whether it is fctual or not. the value of stories imiginary or real is we learn the power of language, it is a window into how others think. Capella on the other hand allows those who want to learn, to do so and cultivate thier minds to a higher level.
Ofcourse there will be lawsuits, disagreements and what have you, is that not the reaon we call these institutions Univesities? - a slice of society. Therefore what happens in society will most likely happen at a University. The disgruntled is usually proportional to those the faling rate and the "not admitted rate" - Gee what a coincdence!
There have been lawsuits against Capella and other universities relative to discrimination against the disabled. Now if that is not a "cleaner thn thou", notion, I do not know what is. Society as a whole discriminates against the disabled, the more diabled you are the more you are discriminated against. Now that some lawyer finds a window of opportunity to "cash in" as some of those guided not by morals and ethics but by "jingle in the pocket" will initiate law suits, that are a no win for a university, because yes they discriminate, but someone forgot to mentin that the very structure of our society, our morals, our ethics, our laws in almost all of the legal frameworks of the world, survival is built upon prymidic discrimination of others and the disabled get the short end of the stick. It is a crime of society not of any one institution.
Someone suggested that "if you want to go to school, don't go online" go to school. How do I do that, I am married with two kids, I am also running a company, but I do want to learn. Do i drop all that just so I can go party in the coed doms and smoke funny cigarrettes?
I am extremely happy with the professors who have guidd my learning journey to-date at Capella. I am not looking to impress anybody with my education, but I would like to be knowledgeable and understand myself and the world more. However if I have to, I can pace my education and knowledge in my areas of specialization at Capella agains anyone. Infact I have taken professional courses and certification course at Harvard and MIT, guess what I was not in the top 10, but I was not in the bottom 10 either. At Capella I am not in the top ten and I am not in the bottom 10. So please, lets put this argument to rest.
I want all those who went to the good schools, to contact some independent education body like United Nations or a consortium of universities to set up an exam or some acceptable testing methods like "jeopardy" invite your very best minds and invite me to participate. I promise you that as long as the test is based on Finance, Economics, Statistics, Organizational Change, and oh yes quantam physics especially in the areas of quantam computing. I might just surprise you.
I would say before you start knocking institutions, first look in the mirror. Ofcourse, Capella has the Good, the Bad and The Ugly set of professors, is that not what you meet in the work place? Good=Mothering Bosses, Bad=Expect more out of you bosses, Ugly= by the book bosses.
All I can tell you is I am learning above and beyond my expectations at Capella, I just hope I can keep the grades up so I am not kicked out like what happens to so many, who think taking an online course is just completing the assignments. It is more than that. So make my day go to a brick and mortar College, lucky you. Unfortunately I cannot, ny life style is a handicap for that kind of change, may be I should sue all Brick and Mortar Colleges for discrimination against the working, married with kids!
