Florida Metropolitian University - FMU Poor customer service, incorrect information and they do not follow up on request Brandon tampus Campus saint Petersburg Florida

When I enrolled in 2002 I asked several times if this school was accreditied. I was assure that it was. This accreditiation issue is my fault because I should have researched this before enrolling. Now I am thousand of dollars in debt and this degree is not good for anything. Bad thing is I finished my AA in 2005. And it wasn't until I enrolled for the BA that I discovered it was a terrible school.

In 12/2005 I called my FMU Counselor to explain that I needed to sit out of school for personal reason. I explained that my father was very ill and I was his caregiver. The counselor stated that I should go ahead and try it and see if I can handle it. After several attempts of trying to back out they insisted that I continue going to class.

I called again in January and asked to withdraw from classes before it was too late, because the stress of my fathers health was to great. Again denied. My father passed away 1/14/2006. I called again and explained I just couldn't do it. Again I was told to just continue to get my mind off of the situation, I then became very upset and demanded to be removed from classes. I was then told to fax my father death certificate and I would be granted a one time acception and would not owe the $786.00 for that semester. They stated that they would contact the department of education.I faxed the death certificate and started back the next semester.

Everything was fine until like 1/2007. I started receiving letter from the school stating that I owe 786.00. I called the school and was told that FMU made and error. When I graduated in 2005 and reenrolled in 2006 the switch from the brandon-tampa campus was not successful and the paperwork to remove the 786.00 was not transfer. I was then told it would be corrected ASAP. Was as of today it still has not been corrected. I have a 786.00 fee on my credit report which has made my credit rating drop.This is totally unfair. I have called,email and etc to several people. Each one states that they are going to get this credited. But no one ever does.

Well, recently I received a statement stating that I owe them over 5000.00. I informed the school that I am not even going to began to address this 5000.00 issue undil they correct the 786.00. No one wants to discuss or talk about the 786.00 that is illegally on my credit, but I get letters everyday about the 5000.00. This school and the representatives at this school should be ashamed of themselves. They lie to students, they misrepresent funds, and they do not return phone calls.

I have wasted so much money and time. This is so unfair.
However, I did speak with someone at the Department of Education that is will to help me.
