I am all for suing the University of Phoenix.

Two years ago I enrolled, and was given a graduation date of August 2007. Everything went smoothly, although my academic and financial counselors changed weekly for a while. I didn't experience any trouble up until a few months ago, when I noticed that my then-current academic counselor had arranged my classes to start every two weeks, instead of one class at a time with a week between them, as had been my habit up until that point. By the time I noticed what was happening, I had already been dropped from a class I hadn't expected to take for another three weeks!

I called my (different, by that time) academic counselor (Alicia Turvin) and told her what was going on. She fixed my schedule, but informed that instead of the 9 credit hours I had left (on my official UoP) course schedule, I actually had 24 credits to take before graduation. She could not explain to me why every other academic counselor I'd had up to that point had assured me that I was on track for an August graduation. I called her boss, who didn't call me back. I called HIS boss, who never called me back. I called HER boss, who never called me back. I finally sent an email to Alicia in which I stated that if I didn't get a response from a manager-type within 24 hours, I was going to the media. Alicia's boss called me later that evening.

Unfortunately, the story he (James McAdams) gave me was that some competency tests I had taken had accidentally gotten entered in as credits, and that's where 12 of those extra 15 needed credits had come from. The remaining 3 credits I was lacking were due to the fact that the UoP had lost my real estate transcript, and so I was being docked those 3 credits. Funny, those credits had been visible to every other academic counselor I'd had. Mr. McAdams suggested I CLEP the 15 credits (at my own expense; financial aid does not cover that) or resign myself to an April '08 graduation.

Fine. I was angry, but soldiered onward. A few weeks back, I got a letter from the financial aid office of UoP telling me that since I was graduating in August I should start thinking about making plans to pay back or defer my loans. A few days after THAT, I got a letter from the Office of the Registrar telling me that I have TWENTY-SEVEN credits left before I can graduate.

I have called Alicia Turvin several times in the last few days. She hasn't called me back. I have called James McAdams. He hasn't called me back, either. In fact, the only person who will call me back is my enrollment counselor (Lauralee Jessup - possibly the nicest, most helpful woman I have ever known... I have only positive things to say about her!), and she is not in a position to do anything to help me.

Oh, did I mention that I was denied a major promotion (which was contingent on the receipt of my degree in August) because of all of this?

I would love to see a class-action lawsuit started, here. I think we should all be given our degrees, or at least be reimbursed for the financial aid bills we racked up playing this game.

I have my alerts set to notify me when anyone responds to this thread, so hopefully we will all get in touch and fix our collective problems! Does anyone have a lawyer in the family? :)

UOP

AUTHOR: tippy - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, April 15, 2017

I attended UOP, and was told that their BS in Human Services would allow me to work as a social worker. Little did I know that after graduation I tried to apply to numerous agencies in the Los Angeles County area for a social worker position and was told that I needed a BS in Social Work to work as social worker. I even tried to go to another school with the credits and was told that the degree and credits would not transfer and I would have to start over if I wanted to earn a degree in social work. I am now in debt for over 35,000 for a two year program and unable to find a job unless or until i return to school for the correct degree. I am horrified and shocked that the federal government will allow the loans to go through knowiing that there is some questionable business practices on the part of these for profit institutions, they all need to be sued for the retur of the money. where do i turn for help with this worhtless degree.

UOP left me with DEBT SENTENCE

AUTHOR: 305Sigma - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, January 07, 2016

I am interested in in being involved in a class action lawsuit against the University of Phoenix. I already see the state of California and Arkansas have lawsuits filed against UOP so hopefully someone in Fla has information.

Anyway, I enrolled at the University of Phoenix after I lost my job during the Great Recession with an interest in pursuing School Counseling. My enrollment advisor assured me that a masters in psychology would fulfill all of the necessary state requirements to eventually become a school counselor. Well, 2 years later and $41,000 in debt I attempted to become licensed in the state of Georgia as a school counselor only to find out that my psychology degree did not meet the requirements and many of the classes I completed were a waste of time and money! Now, I had to return back to school to pursue a specialist degree in school counseling which should have been the recommended by my enrollment advisor Kernisha Rowe!

Has there been a lawsuit? I need help too!

AUTHOR: marcie - ()

POSTED: Friday, December 12, 2014

I was a student there also and was a very good student and took a leave of absent because of serious medical problems and with family members. Everything was fine and I still had plenty of time on my leave of absence but I got an email from my counselor saying that even though I only had about 6 or 7 months left of school, that I needed to redo my whole bachelors because of licensing changes and I would have to pay for it all again!!!!

I appealed and lost and nobody even called me back which is funny because that school calls you for anything they can think of they are always on the phone and on top of it but they sure haven't been since then and I'm supposed to pay for two bachelors at one of the most expensive schools? You must be kidding me, this isn't fair and not have my degree right now is devastating, so I want to find out where this went because I see these postings are old. Please help

I wrote the whitehouse about UOP

AUTHOR: Kathy Proctor - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, October 20, 2011

I fell victum to UOP because they enrolled me in a class I had no experience in. They allowed me to spend 41k in loans in a field of study I had NO experience in. They did not offer internships, mentors, sponsors etc. I graduated in 2008 and STILL have not found a job in Information Technology because every company I have filed a resume with want 3-5 years on hands experience. UOP should have asked me what my current job duties were and the company I worked for and had me get into something like business management where I could have used my skills in the current job I was in. I am now having to return to a local college and take classes (out of pocket) because they offer internships for students. The local college will not even enroll you in the classes unless you have an internship set up already.

Yes, I was doing a career change through education but.. UOP should know you cannot do a career change and get hired without proper on hands experience...

My fault??? Maybe.... I should have researched the field of study more and realized I could not even get my foot in the door with a degree in hand before on hands experience.

Waste of money on my part.

DONT GO TO UOP IF YOU DONT HAVE ON HANDS EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF STUDY YOU ARE APPLYING FOR!!!!!

University of Phoenix resolution help

AUTHOR: Susan - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, October 06, 2011

To all of you who are complaining about University of Phoenix....my best suggestion is to get the Department of Education involved. I had a simuliar situation with another university and they did all the  investigating for me. They not only got me money returned, they helped to adjust my credits earned so that I would not have to take additional classes as the college stated. They are there to not  only work with you on funding, they to resolve issues with  various university that conduct business unethically. Trust me, they are a great resource for help.

#49 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Victim of University of Phoenix

AUTHOR: KL - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 03, 2011

I too attended UOP and had several financial aide advisors and academic advisors that would change names weekly, if not daily, that I could not keep up with the current ones name. My last class that I took with them, the advisor told me I owed additional monies out of my own pocket for the class when all the time my federal student loans had covered everything. I was shocked to hear this and told the advisor I had never had to pay for a class that my student loan always covered everything (I took one class at a time). The response from the advisor or should I say the excuse she gave me just sounded lame and I retorted, "what is going on? You are the upteenth advisor I have had and now you telling me that I owe money when I have never had to pay money from my own pocket, in the past with any of the other classes I took, nor was told anything about having to. What are you doing with my student loan skimming off it?" To which she replied something about having to take higher level classes (which they were not). Now they are holding my transcript hostage as well for $400. I have consistently asked them what this $400 is specifically for and for a breakdown of all the monies they have received from my student loans. They tell me to call a number and of course you never get a person with that number. The only person you get just keeps telling me how much I need to pay them to get my transcript released 'unharmed from those hostages'.

I was so glad to find out that UOP was being sued which I believe they deserve because it is federal money and I need that transcript to attend a more honest and academically stable university to attain my BSN...I would like to know how I can help in anyway, because my student loan payments need to be paid and I want my degree and credits that I earned..........Let's get this legally resolved and you have my support just let me know.

I AM IN YOUR BOAT SISTER!!!

AUTHOR: tara0410 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 02, 2010

I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO YOU!!! I ALSO POSTED ON HERE!!!...FOLLOWING IS MY POST...I HAVE BEEN TAKING STEPS TO DO EVERTHING I CAN!! tarabrown0414@yahoo.com

*PLEASE READ THIS*

I began the UOP(University of Phoenix) doctoral program in May 2004. I went through this program with no difficulty as you could see by my transcript. During this process I obtained a mentor,  and from the beginning I had much difficulty with her. I should have changed sooner but with the advice of my academic counselor I continued with the program. First of all, I had two other people within my cohort that used the same mentor. Initially, my mentor sent them papers for ARB checklists etc, which I never received any of them from her without having to ask. I became concerned with the way she was talking to me telling me, that I did not know what I was doing, I was stupid, I was lazy and that I would not complete this program. I can take constructive criticism but that was ridiculous. My mentor at Jacksonville State University (the Dean of Professional Studies) and committee member read all of these comments and at that time was willing to put more effort into assisting me. I explained to her that no I did not know everything, that if I did I would already have a doctorate. Then she would come back and try and be kind. After time this began wearing on me and I may not have been as productive as I could have been because she literally downed everything I did or said. The first 733 class I fell behind on and she suggested that I obtain a statistician, so I did ($1500). After obtaining a statistician, he reviewed my methodology and made suggestions. She argued with everything he said and he became somewhat irritated with the process. He stated that using parametric and nonparametric methodology may not be best and agreed to a conference call with him and at that point things changed again. She informed me that he could suggest things but she WAS still my mentor and she had the final say so on everything? (So why exactly did I hire him?). So the next 733 was spent arguing about the methodology. I presented her with a Likert Type Scale that she suggested I change, and then I turned it into her for her just to tell me I needed to do it another way (the way I originally had turned it in). The third 733 was spent with her calling me a liar. She continued to tell me that I could not use the current consent form that I had and told me I was lying about my research? Because something small had changed from the very beginning of the proposal? I contacted the UOP about my consent and they stated that it was fine. She got mad and contacted Dr Delicath (head of the UOP mentors) and again was terrible to me about the situation. I contacted my academic advisor at UOP at that time because I could not take anymore. She advised me at that point to let her go as my mentor. From that point I posted and tried to obtain a new mentor and all I received was, "Not my area of interest", "I am full and cant take anymore mentees", "I could be a committee member but not a mentor"so again I contacted my academic advisor and she posted a "want ad per se" for anyone who could be my mentor and I contacted Dr Delicath about assisting me with finding a mentor. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. At that point the UOP was telling me that I would have to retake classes and a residency!! For what because the UOP offers a service that they cant provide!! I have saved and have copied over 200 emails between me, my advisor, my mentor, statistician, financial advisor, possible mentorsthat easily proves my case. I have taken them all to a lawyer. This is not the route I wanted to chose, but I deserve my degreefor gods sake, I had 1 class left.

Let me again paint a picture, I started my degree in 2004. I had two small children, 3 and 5. My oldest son who has Down Syndrome and needed extra attention. I began the program because a girl, Jennifer, from the UOP called and called about me doing the program but little did I know that I was going to work my @$$ off (to say the least) with my children falling asleep in the floor beside me at night while I was on the computer and got to the point that they cried and screamed if I even mentioned working on the computer. I sacrificed my precious time with my children that I can NEVER get back, time that money could never buy back. All I wanted was my degreedo I not deserve that. I am asking, begging for your assistance in this matter. PLEASE!

Currently, I am paying back $59,000 for a degree that I couldnt get because a college could not provide a service, harassing calls and letters from a collection company for $9,154 that I owe because the UOP says that I signed a Promissory Note that I would complete my degree per my financial advisor at the timebut does the UOP not have to abide by the rules? They turned it in on my credit which now has caused me to have derogatory credit. My heart has been ripped out of my chest over this. I have the emails and I can provide whatever needs to be provided. THERE  HAS TO BE JUSTICE!!!

Ripped Off As Well

AUTHOR: Latoya hillard - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, April 29, 2010

I have been ripoffed by this institution as well. I too had Alicia Turvin as my academic counselor for a while and they changed my counselor all of a sudden with out notifying me.

I was also told here recently that I did not have enough money to graduate. I feel like I have wasted a year and all I was trying to do was graduate so that I can better myself enough to take care of my three children.

My finanical counselor was not any better because she was not trying to help me find any funds that could help me. It seems that she wanted me to pay cash or get a private loan.

For anybody that wants to file a class action lawsuit, I am more then willing to participate in it.

Due Process:

AUTHOR: Happy1withshatteredreamz - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 05, 2010

You have to file a grievance with the University before you can do anything else. When that doesn't work (and it won't) you go up the ladder. I contacted my state attorney general's office because of them. They told me because I didn't go to an official campus, the jurisdiction lies in Arizona. So now that everyone knows this, please send ALL THE COMPLAINTS YOU CAN TO THE ARIZONA ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE! They can then look at the info and then determine what is going on and if anything can be done about the rip off.

Please include me in class action suit against UoPX

AUTHOR: AdaminPhoenix - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 24, 2010

I too am willing to be a part of a class action lawsuit against UoPX. Thank the lord I did not get as far as some of the people that have posted. I was lied to about my classes and scheduling and told I would only have to do work "For an hour or so,1 or 2 nights a week" with classes alternating weekly. This worked with my work schedule as I was working on the road 3-4 days a week. It ended up that I was having to do 4 hours of classes 6 days a week and even on Saturday. When I called my enrollment counselor he magically no longer worked there and no one could give me a straight answer. I was not able to keep up with work and the class so I dropped the second week. I was lied to under false pretenses to enroll at this school. Period. Please contact me if a suit arises.

This so sad

AUTHOR: Nick - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, November 01, 2009
The research that I have conducted has been disparaging for the University of Phoenix. I only wish that I had known prior to graduation that this school is in the business of ruining lives.
I've been a student since 4/2007 and I am to complete my BSB 12/2009. This is only after I have been swindled in to believing all my financial obligations were set and calculated correctly.
Well this is not the case. After months and months of back and forth phone calls with my underling FA counsel I've been notified that I'm in debt with the school for $5,000.40.
Can you believe that? My again, underling FAC returned the funds to my lender without any discussions with me the student, prior to this action. Mean while I'm short a few GEN ED credits, so I ask the FAC, if I in fact add two classes with UOP my financial aid will more than cover that and the last class taken on ground which was completed in August 09. He says yes. So with that I contacted my AC, she stated the classes must be certified via financial aid first. So yes the underling approved them knowing I had not a dollar left to now pay for the class in August, and the two classes I added! Mind you, I've never had below a 3.21 GPA, nor any breaks/gaps/lapse in attendance either. They (UOP) calculated "future credits" to be earned, well the underling never discussed this with me, again THE STUDENT!
I'm pursuing my options, frankly this is just not what I had expected from this organization.
So now the FAC Supervisor that I had called on several occasions (and never returned my calls), becomes involved at the 11th hour. She says, "I see that you have been in contact with B. Choice, for pursuing your MBA/HR, well heres an option for you, stay at UOP and we can use your graduate money to pay you financial short fall..." Sick, lets rob Peter to pay Paul.
I do hope that I have some legal recourse against the disgusting business they call UOP. I want to prevent another person who has the sole intent to better their lives through education to not be duped in to enrolling in UOP.

I really feel the act being committed against myself and hundreds of thousands of others is blackmail, duress, and just your very basic unethical business practice. They (UOP) know that I was pursuing an MBA/HR at another institution, so what better way to secure 30K and a nice commission? By playing games with financial aid, and leaving the student holding the empty bag!

Something that everyone is forgetting!!!!!

AUTHOR: Schoolkid - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 18, 2009

To the fact of these employees that are having a rebuttle to this original posting. Tell us one thing, why is it that when contacted by an advisor to set up the stafford loans and the pell grants, why do the advisors tell every student that they have to check the box next to where it says " If any loan or grant money is left over after paying tuition, the UOP can take that to place on ones balance"? That is against the law first of all and very unethical practice. Maybe you would know the terme by now : Educational Fraud"? You should, the UOP has only been sued for billions of dollors to do with this same issue but yet you continue to do so.

As far as the class action suit goes, you can count My fiance` and Myself in on that one. There is a lawyer in florida that is taking on the UOP specifically for the reasons of Financial Fraud. There already is a class action suit against the UOP for Financial Fraud. How do I know? Well lets just say I heard it from a little birdy.

Here is the bottom line, if the UOP has validety in what they rebute to be true, show the proof because I hate to tell you, we do not have to show proof because it is a proven fact that the UOP commits Financial Fraud on a year to year basis. If this was incorrect then why does UOP always pay off who ever sues them to keep them quiet?

I mean seriously, your rebuttals are meaningless. Eventually and it is coming soon, the UOP will loose there accredidation(what little they have) and the school will go bankrupt because no one will pay out of pocket for a third rate education not to mention the UOP reputation has alreadt preceaded there accredidation. Get some valued information to accredit your rebuttals or simply crawl into your corner and stay out of the conversations.

There are so many complaints, even by the ex-employees. Now I'm sure that there are many students or ex-students that are doing or did just fine with them, or didn't pay attention to their scam, but there millions of others that did get ripped off, including my 22yr old, single mother, Daughter.

She was told by the enrollment adviser, that the paper work HE WALKED her through was all formality; even when they go to the "loan" part. She told him, she did not want a loan and if she had to get a loan, she didn't want to pursue with them, He continued to tell her, to not worry about it, it's only if she decided to get a loan. He "assured" her it was not a loan...So "SHE SIGNED"

When she would get statements in the mail from Wachovia about a loan, she supposedly had with them. She then called her counselor, who again assured her it was nothing, she did NOT have a loan, she has a FREE Grant and told her also that she was basically being paid to go to school when she received a check in the mail from UOP, that it was just extra money to pay for any school necessities.

So now, almost 2yrs and just 6months before she graduates, she gets a call from the financing dept about her "LOAN" that she's NOT suppose to have.

We have been calling and leaving messages and no one helps. They keep telling her "Well you signed" OMG! I want to F.....ing go beat the living H...LL out of them. She knows that she signed, but the fact is, He, the enrollment counselor, walked her through the paper work and told her to sign, to NOT worry about the loan stuff, it was NOT a loan.

These people need to be stopped. I want to get a class action suit going, but, We need to get as many people as we can to be a part of this. We have already been in contact with an Attorney. Or rather, he contacted us and he states he has other complaints just like ours.

****So if there is anyone else that this specific situation has happened to them, please contact me; (((ROR redacted)))****

This can't keep happening to people who are just trying to better their career, make a good life for themselves.

And for those who say, "oh but she signed" or about, "not signing before you read" SHUT THE Blank UP! I'm not talking you, I'm talking to people this has happened to.

Thank you
Sheila

Here in the State of Michigan the Unemployment agency offers serveral programs for the unemployed to return back to school and the state will pay for it. I thought great!! I found a program with the University of Phoenix and talked to an enrollment advisor (Ryan Cook) He told myself and the Michigan Works representative that it would not be an issue for me to attend on line classes at the University of Phoenix and that they would accept payment from the Michigan works program. Ryan mentioned that all they needed to do was to up date the web site so that it could be approved. He said that it would be done by the time my first class was over. But in the mean time just to get started, I needed to file for financial aid (sally mae). I told him I was unemployed and did not want to take out any loans. He stated that it should only be for one class. Ok stupid as I was I signed up for it. Well 3 classes later and $5,999.00 dollars later I had not heard from him. So I did some follow up on my own and found out that the university had no enention to work with the Michgan Works funding. I contacted the school here locally and the person was nice enought to send out a blanket e-mail to Ryans supervisor and anyone that was important to the issue. A Jeff W. returned my call and stated that I along with myself mis understood Ryan and that they were not nor did they have any intention to work with us. He also stated that I all of a sudden was 3 credits short from activating my second half of my Sally mae loan and suggested I take a leave of absence and attend another college to get the 3 credits I was missing. I was floored by this. My passion dropped. I am wanted to contact the news media and who ever will listen. Ryan cook has a job and is going to school for free and now I am unemployed and stuck with this loan I never wanted.
I would also like to join this class action law suit. Please feel free to contact me

Educated Topeka, Anonymous Chandler, Janie Fl - They Know what they're talking about....lol

AUTHOR: Christian - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 09, 2009

Educated Topeka or should I say Uneducated, Look you really shouldn't speak about UOPX anymore. You are so cocky and so wrong that I bet you are the one that give students wrong information for you campus which ends in legal problems. You are part of the reason UOPX has so many entries on RIP OFF. Geez, she sure can get credit for her mortg stuff, diving certificate, etc. You know what "Unducated"? No...UOPX give credit for LIVE EXPERIENCE. Do you know how "Uneducated"? I'm sure you don't so I'll let you know. They submit a portfolio of any certifications they have(mortg lic, insurance lic, basket weaving lic) to a committe that applies them as college credit if possible. So if they lost these credits AFTER she enrolled thinking she was coming in with a certain amount of credits then she may have a standing. Her status was misrepresented to her to gain her enrollment then changed after the fact. Uneducated you really shouldn't do all your schooling at one place and learn that cocky is often a bad look on a girl.

"Anonymous" Chandler, this is a good name for you. As empty as the details of your name are indicate your reading skills into detail. She just stated that she checked the website often and it indicated to her that she was at the level she expected. She then stated that after all that, "website checking", things still fell apart. Nice suggestion Anonymous? I would use that name if I were you too.

Janie, Florida- Are you sure. I would best against you on this one. Please have cash no checks. UOPX and lawsuites is not something they have a winning record of. Dig deeper, locally and you may see that they do a great deal to keep things out of court/headlines.

Geez, you guys represent UOPX? I see why they don't want to go to court with the goonies.

I am with you on the class action law suit. I am willing to try anything to get some help with Axia and retreive monies that I lose with this school. I am so heart broken because of the mess that I am in with this school. They have stop me from finishing because they stated I had plagized a paper in one class and palgized a capstone question in another. The one class I went form a B to a f in the final week. This caused for an out of pocket expense. Every time I come close to finishing I suddenly fail a class.

I am on board for any class action lawsuit

AUTHOR: Jdeck - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 28, 2008

I am in the same boat as many of the individuals that I have been reading about and would love to get everyone together to file a class action lawsuit against UOP. I originally signed up for the E-business program and came withing 3 classes of finishing my degree and had to take a leave of absence due to a hardship (Divorce, Bankruptcy, two surgeries and unemployment) Not your run of the mill hardship but I think it is a valid one.

I have been fighting with UOP for over 3 years now to let me finish and the only responses I get is that I need 24 more classes. Now I am $30,000 in debt and have no degree. On top of that I have attempted to file multiple appeals with UOP and each time my case just seems to be thrown out and I never hear back from anyone again. I think there are multiple angles we can take to get a class action lawsuit started: 1. the treatment of students and the multiple horror stories that are out there of students unable to finish their degree's becuase of red tape. 2. UOP classes are a joke.

I have gone to 3 different colleges over the course of my education and UOP grades are based on the score that the instructor gets at the end of the course because they are getting paid based on this and not the actual learning that takes place in the class. I mean come on no mid terms, no finals, not even any tests. I have over 100 credit hours with UOP and a 3.79 GPA and I never bought a single book for any of my classes.

I am no genius by any means but come on there has to be some sort of action that can be taken place as far as the quality of education goes. In fact I would like to see even one credit from UOP transfer to any college even a community college. It won't and it is a joke. I think this is the best bet for a class action suit. I have a freind that just won a class action lawsuit against ITT tech for the same situation. The entire group had their tuition refunded and I beleive him because I saw the check.

Lets all get together and get this rolling. Come on if someone can sue Mcdonalds because they spilled hot coffee on themselves then surely we can find a lawyer to represent us and get this ball rolling.

AUTHOR: Eric - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 26, 2008

We don't try outsmarting anyone. That is not what we are the business of doing. However, based on the grammatical errors in your response, it obviously doesn't take that much to outsmart you.

We're not mocking anyone, however, we do laugh when we give people information and let them know things in advance, and yet, people still fail to comprehend. School is a huge investment and one that should be thought about thoroughly. Rushing into making a decision of this nature is down right out irresponsible. Would you rush to make a decision on buying a home or a car? If so, it's no wonder you're claiming we outsmart people. You sell yourself short.

Take a good look at any of these situations and I bet the majority of them, the fault lies on the student, not the university. We are NOT perfect, but we also do not pride ourselves on intentionally deceiving students. That's an outrageous assumption. If individuals like yourself and most others on here would listen to their enrollment counselors and not just hear them, they may be better off.

One final note, most of the stories on here are not complete. I would almost guarantee that their is some fault on the student's behalf that they are not mentioning for fear of being laughed at...you know, like you say we do. It's so easy to jump on some website and start posting erroneous, negative feedback based on personal experience, when everyone knows, there are two sides to a story. The truth lies in the middle.

I WILL JOIN ANY CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST UOP

AUTHOR: Mwilliams - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2007

I should have known when the sales rep. who sold me to join UOP was also my "enrollment councler". It was the worst experience from the wrong start date, they weren't sure how my participation should be since the Winter break began during our 2nd week of class, technical issues from day one, my teacher did not post her syllabus on time, and she would not reply to any of my inquiries or concerns until the last week of the class 1/23/07. She claims her email system was on a "different platform" so we had a communication barrier. She granted an extension for me to complete the assignments that I had concerns about on 2/5, but my new course had already begun 1/30.

My enrollment councler said they do not recommend "overlapping" because the heavy participation required of each course. But he said he apologizes that my teacher "sucks" and he was going to escalate this to his manager. He said the teachers are contracted and not really apart of UOP, so all he could do is take this up with his manager.

I received notice from UOP that I owe almost $4,000 for that class and half of a 2nd class before I finally withdrew. I mailed them documentation of the emails that I sent the teacher from the beginning of class and the emails that I sent to my enrollment councler about her. I sent them a copy of the response that she finally sent to me.

I agreed to pay for the part of the second course that I took, but I should not have to pay for a service that I did not get, which was that first class. That first classs, GEN 300 is not even a real academic course that can be transfered anywhere.

POSTED: Saturday, December 08, 2007

I agree... what on earth is she talking about? Since when do you get college credits for real-estate classes? We only transfer in credits from other accredited colleges. A PLAC is not easy to get... because you have to prove those were college level courses!

Please go to another institution and see where the sit and wait thing gets you... the only difference is it's expected there and not with us, because we take the one on one approach to help. Therefore, this is how we are thanked.

So you want to spend our time and our resources.... and have us pay for your lack of involvement! FABULOUS! Good luck with the lawyer thing... lol!

I have a feeling you are going to have an "I have a UOP degree, hear me roar" attitude when you are finished. Goodness! Just finish your degree... with less then 25% of the population educated... you will not have issues furthering your career.

You do not have 27 credits left... please continue to call the school. Your enrollment counselor can help you! That is if you haven't dropped out and that this is what all of this is really about.

MBA Janie?

POSTED: Wednesday, October 17, 2007

An MBA at the UOP??? Did you investigate what the business world thinks about their MBA....Why spend all that money if people think your degree doesn't make you competitive????

This came from an Intel exec about why the company no longer funds employee educations at some for profit schools like the UOP, from an aritcle in the Arizona Republic....

"Intel noticed higher-than-normal attrition among employees who had taken classes on the company's dime and set out to find out why.

A big finding: Some workers left or were planning to leave because their new degree didn't help them advance at Intel..."

"We would be wasting their time and wasting our money if we didn't make sure that the education that they are getting can be used at Intel," he said.

It's not only about how much you make, and they go off of your previous year's taxes i.e for the fiscal 07-08 year they use your 06 taxes. Hello. Good luck on your class action lawsuit because you wouldn't win anyway. What you are describing sounds like internal organization problems. It's just like trying to pay medical bills and they lose your file; it happens more often than not. Best thing to do is know how to do things and understand things for yourself.

I try not to rely on other people to give me information. Have your own paperwork and your own backup. I have 1 more class to go with UOP and I will have my BA. I thought the university was great up until I read some of the people responses. I could not believe it. I have put out so much money in out of pocket fees. It is ridiculous. I could not eat half the time because I had to pay an out of pocket fee or I could not attend the class. I didn't want to stop because I have always wanted my degree and I didn't have any money to pay the student loans again. They told me I was not eligible for any pell grants where I do not have to pay back. I only made about $21000 at that time. Why am I not eligble for any pell grant? All I was eligible for was student loans. Now, I am looking at a $30000 student loan I have to pay back. I just don't understand. I wonder did the financial advisor put something else on the paper for them to say I couldnt get any pell grants. They switch up academic counselors and financial advisors like crazy. I email them all the time and I do not get any responses. I am all for suing. Let me know what I need to do. I do not know any lawyers but I am sure there is a lawyer out there who will be willing to take the case.
