VONAGE Very difficult time canceling service due to audio gaps & $120 fee Internet

I subscribed to Vonage Sept '08, purchasing all equipment. They promised that I could keep my old telephone number but that did not occur.

Both sides of my phone conversations were getting short audio gaps forcing you or the other party to repeat themselves. Various corrective measures were attempted to no avail.

Beginning of July, I switched over to Time Warner and today 8-4-09 I attempted to cancel service. After establishing my identity multiple times, they kept me on the phone forever. I did not want to play 20 questions about my service as I already went thru that. It was time to cancel. Eventually a supr came on the line & it turns out they were using this stalling time to deduct $120 from my bank account.

Lousy service & a rip-off company.

Contract

That have it in your contract that they will debit an early cancellation fee and a fee to recoup the rebate on your device if you cancel before your contract is up.

Additionally, Did you not research VOIP before you got it? The intermittent pauses are how it works. If you want something exactly like your landline, then you should stick with your landline.

vonage sucks

i tried vonage as well. it was the worst phone service i have ever used. it was really bad to cut in and out in the middle of conversations. it wasn't just from time to time, it was constantly and sometimes it was so bad that i had to end the call and use my cell phone to call the person back so we could have a conversation. i did not have this issue at all during the first 30 days of service, when you get the trial period to see if you like it. vonage tried to say it was my internet causing the issue, but there was nothing wrong with my internet, it was tested and it was great. the box they give you to hook up everything up was also crappy. it had a short in it and caused my internet to go out all the time because of that short.  i read the agreement and knew that my account would be charged if i cancelled service, so instead of dealing with that, i simply cancelled the credit card that was being billed the monthly charges and then they were not able to charge me anything at all anymore.

I think we all need to start circulating email that says you must cancel your credit card before canceling your service. That way all the people that are getting ripped off will be vindicated.
