Once you sign up for a year you accept a fine-print clause that renewals will be automatic - just like a porn site.  But, unlike a porn site, Terraserver will not let you cancel and refund your subscription ($149 per year).  They issue no notice.  The first indication of an automatic renewal is that they bill your credit card.

Their attitude is "too bad, you should have read the terms".  Don't use these folks.  Most of what they do can be replaced by Google Earth professional.

Our Subscription Agreement

AUTHOR: TerraServer - (USA)

Mr. Jim G,

While we are not as familiar with porn sites as you seem to be, we make all of our subscribers thoroughly aware of our automatically renewing subscription.  Not only is this information available in our subscription agreement that must agreed to but we have clearly stated directly below the fields where credit card information is entered that the user will be entering into an automatically renewing subscription and that they will continue to be billed until they decide to cancel.  This can be found on our subscription page. https://www.terraserver.com/purchases/subscribe_new.asp

We also notify customers of their subscription status every time they log in, which you did 5 times during your subscription time. When a customer logs in, they are automatically sent to their Account page which notifies the customer of their subscription type and their Automatic Renewal status. This page also gives customers the ability to cancel their subscription in order to end recurring billing charges.

In addition to the above cancellation method, we also list our toll free number on the website and will handle cancellations through that medium. We also list our email address and have a help and support form available on the website. We cater to thousands of subscribers who clearly understand the recurring billing cycle and manage their accounts as such.

TerraServer.com has been a Better Business Bureau Accredited business since February 2007 and has met all of the BBB Accreditation standards resulting in an A+ rating.  You can see this information by using the following link. http://www.bbb.org/raleigh-durham/business-reviews/cartographers/terraservercom-in-raleigh-nc-90034499

As you can see, we make information regarding the automatic renewal status clearly available to the customer during the purchase process, in the subscription agreement and during the actual subscription period.

Terms Of Use

AUTHOR: ts-support - Raleigh (USA)

Unlike Jim, we are not familiar with the practices of porn sites.  However, TerraServer has very clear Terms Of Use which are industry standard.

There is no fine print.  On the subscription purchase page (https://www.terraserver.com/purchases/subscribe_new.asp), in italics for emphasis, it states:  Please Note: Subscriptions automatically renew and you will be charged again until you cancel. You can cancel at any time and continue to have full access for the remainder of your subscription.

This same language, along with other terms and our refund policy, are included in the Subscription Agreement which users must read and agree to before joining.  This is a legally binding agreement and those that attempt to violate this are ripping us off.  Additionally, these terms are linked on every page.

We have been in business for over 10 years and are very professional.  We have tens of thousands of subscribers who love our service and clearly understand the automatic renewals.  In fact, we often have customers who get upset when their account does not automatically renew, usually due to expiration date.

We pay royalties based on subscribers and subscription usage.  When a customer attempts to rip us off with a chargeback this not only costs us the subscription sale but also credit card transaction fees and royalties.

Not Accurate

AUTHOR: JimG - The Woodlands (USA)

There is every effort made to trick you into another payment.  here is no notification; the response from Terraserver is just BS.

Member of the BBB!  Ha, so was Enron.

Just read the responses from Terraserver and you can jusdge for yourself if this is a company you want to deal with.  The attitude and unprofessionalism come through loud and clear.
