DELL SUCKS.

it all started when the DELL mini Inspiron had a boot up Problem. made a beeping noise during boot up. so i call DELL warranty support, after speaking with one Individual he transfered my call to hardware support i was on hold for 15 Minutes then i got Hung up on.i called back spoke with another person he transfered my call to hardware support i got hung up on again. 3rd call was a complete  run around.the 4th call i got some answers  to the problems the lap top was having  so i think i got some help or maybe not. this IDIOT on the phone wanted me to  disasseblem the lap top and reset the ram. i told him i am not a lap top tech i am not taking it apart. he said ok il send a pre paid box so you can ship the computer back for warranty support. today i get a phone call from dell saying the the MOTHERBOARD went bad and is not covered by warranty.  i said this lap top is not even a year old and the motherboard dies. simple DO NOT BUY A DELL THEY USE JUNK CHEAP PARTS AND OFFER NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT. AND IF YOU DO GET HELP THEY WANT TO CHARGE YOU. I HAVE TWO toshiba lap tops they are excellent. i have to call them tomorrow and see what they say.i will post my out come.

i will never buy another dell...... they suck...

Half a Warranty

AUTHOR: depth386 - (Canada)

I have some professional computer technician background, I can build a desktop from the ground up etc.

Background: My general opinion of Dell was very low in the late 90's and early 2000's because their machines featured non-standard, essentially irreplaceable parts, meaning that post-warranty you had to be ready to replace the whole thing at any moment. Around when Windows XP came out I noticed Dell didnt do this crap anymore, and while their cases/chassis sometimes sucked, overall Dell really cleaned up its act. Dell impressed me, when in August of 2006 they recalled a collosal amount of laptop batteries after one laptop caught fire. I remember having to ship some batteries to Dell from my workplace at the time. Reference: http://www.computerweekly.com/feature/Dell-Laptop-Battery-Recall-The-Expert-View

Anyways, like any company they're out for profit, so I never expect the same value that I get from something I build for myself, but I thought Dell was reasonable, so your report disturbs me a little.

The main issue that I see here is the statement that "the motherboard is not covered by the warranty". Any computer technician could tell you this is not reasonable for a laptop, because in laptops many things are integrated onto the motherboard pernamently, such as the video card, sound card, network card, etc. The only things really seperate are the hard-drive, RAM, screen, and keyboard? To say that the motherboard is not covered is like saying half the computer is not covered. Laptops always push performance limits because of the desired "best of both worlds" in terms of performance and miniaturization. It is not your fault they went too far and sold a product that overheats and fries it's own motherboard while still relatively new.

Seriously I thought Dell was Okay, so this is surprising. Key issue is that "Motherboard Not Covered By Warranty" Means that Video, Audio, Network.... possibly CPU... 50% or more of the computer is not covered by Warranty. This IS indeed a ripoff.

The Question.

AUTHOR: Flynrider - Phoenix (USA)

I think the question that was being asked is why Dell is saying that the motherboard is not covered by the warranty.    The motherboard IS normally covered by Dell's warranty, so they must give you some reason why it is not covered in your case.   These are normally things like physical damage, exposure to liquids, etc....
