The Best Buy extended warranty provided by their Geek Squad is basically worthless. I bought a Kodak all in printer with wireless, wired and USB capabilities. I set it up to use the Wireless connection to our home network and it ran fine for a couple of months. Then suddenly the printer could no longer be seen by any of the computers in the house.

I took the printer to the West Dundee Illinois Best Buy Geek Squad service center. I tried to explain to the agent behind the counter what the problem was and he told me I would have to bring my computer in so they could test the printer because they had no computer there that could link to the printer.

I said here is the install disk set it up on your company machine and test it. They said they were not allowed to install anything on their company equipment. I needed to bring in my computer. I told them the problem was that it could not communicate through the wireless and in order to test it properly they would have to test through a wireless connection. They couldn't do that. I said fine then replace the printer with one that works. They wouldn't do that. They would have to come to our house. To do what? prove what I already know! If this collection of incompetents is going to represent themselves as a fix it outfit they need to get the proper equipment to test what they sell service contracts for.

I'm done with Best Buy. They aren't the only big box store around and they aren't always the "best buy" if their service contract is worthless then there is no point in going there.

Annoying but...

-In a way I do agree but there are many cases that could cause problems they really do need the computer it is installed on to test.  It could also be a case where you don't know and could be wrong.  Regardless of how much of a computer expert you think you are, Best Buy or any store is not going to replace a printer or other equipment just because you "say" it doesn't work.  Now, if you do let them test the printer, and it doesn't work.  If they refused to replace it at that point you would have a valid complaint.

Before you ask no I do not work for Best Buy or any electronics store.  But I have seen a very computer literate person who thought their laptop is broken because it no longer connects to WiFi.  The problem...they hit the WiFi switch on the Laptop by accident.  I have also seen cases where an update to Windows has killed a printer.  The fix...uninstall the current driver, download the latest from the manufacturer and reinstall the new driver.   Other possibilities is that the printer settings got reset and it is no longer on your network.  For that just go through the setup process again to verify.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Call Kodak?

AUTHOR: IntheKnow - (USA)

As Bleak Squad may give you courtesy diagnostics, if the printer is under mfr warranty, you should call Kodak.  They'll take you through a couple of diagnostics and if it is defective, they'll send you a new or refurb and you send the old one back in the supplied box.  Best Buy still has no legal obligation to override the mfr warranty - as this IS in the mouse print.  Your "extended" plan dependig on the price you paid, is either a replacement or fix/replace scenario, past the mfr warranty period.  "Plan begins date of purchase" is a deception designed to mask the mfr warranty and limit the liability of the plan administrator.
