I purchased a lot of electronics over the years at Fry's. One of the last things I purchased was my laptop. I was told that the laptop was new. It was not, it was refurbished. A year and a half later and many lost hours because it kept breaking down, I took it in- it turns out the mother board was bad and it needed to be replaced. The process took about six-seven weeks, but it sat around for about four or five, because they said they had a lot of other projects to work on. I was supposed to be informed about the status of the laptop- I was not. So, I called and received extremely rude treatment from the Service department when I asked about the deadline. I was basically told "it is ready when it is".

I was also not told about the fact that all my files would be deleted through this process of changing the mother board. I was not told that it is best that I receive a copy of my files. It is by a stroke of good fortune that I requested a copy of all my files (one of my clients needed work done). I was given one, but I had to pay $75. The process of copying my files to a CD usually takes a few minutes, but it took about them two and a half hours!

When I went back to pick up my laptop, I complained about the fact that I was misinformed about the condition of it (was told it was new when purchased) and all the other problems such as the service and the poor quality of service. I received nothing but shrugs, excuses, robotic answers and cold stares. I am extremely frustrated.

Some of files on the CD are lost, there is a problem with copying the files, and it seems all the basic software that the laptop came with is gone, such as the Microsoft Word software.

It has been nothing but a continuous headache. And my laptop still crashes once in a while- not a good sign. And my warranty has expired, thanks to the slow service. So, I hope someone reads this and is cautious about purchasing anything there.
