I purchased a warranty for my Dell laptop that cost me $299.99 that I was told by the sales people at Best Buy that would cover my Dell Studio Laptop from any type of damage or normal wear for 3 years and that I could take it in to any Geek Squad center for repair while I wait. The laptop has developed a problem whereby the system board will not recognize my ac adapter. The little white light does not illuminate anymore and I keep getting an error message that says it cannot recognize the ac adapter. I first called Dell about the problem and they sent me a new adapter to try and also a box to send the computer back to them for repair in case the adapter did not work. Dell said it would take up to 10 working days to repair it! Aaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh!

So I remembered that I had purchased the 3 year warranty from Best Buy and called them. They told me that they cannot make repairs in-store and that it would have to be sent out and would take 14 days!!!!!! Now in today's world I find this totally unacceptable!

I got on back Dell's service messenger and asked them if there was a faster way to repair my computer and they said that for $69.00 they could have someone out the next day to repair it on site!!!!!!! This I am going to do!

Now I am asking myself - why in the world did I purchase a $300.00 warranty that is absolutely worthless? In my eyes, I know I got ripped off and I want others that read this to stay away from purchasing Best Buy's warranties - they are worthless!

I will not do business with Best Buy anymore.

Read your terms and conditions before you buy!

AUTHOR: Guitarplayer1985 - (United States of America)

Well I hardly think its best buys fault that you refused to read the terms and condition that is easly accesable at any best buy and at any register no less.  First of all why would you think that any large company would take apart laptops in house? Have you ever seen the inside of a laptop? its not like taking apart a toaster it has many small components and requires the tech and location to be authorized by dell to work on it. Do you really think that an instore tech would sit in thier small precinct and just start dismantaling a laptop? that wouldnt be very safe for the laptop do to the fact that authorized service centers have to dust and static free. Besides they have 100's of computers that come in with software issues that they fix in store. they dont have room to do indepth hardware repaires. That is why bet buy has a service center just like every large electronics retailer in the world. if you are going to stop shopping there because they wouldnt fix your laptop right instore than I hate to break it to you but EVERY ONES THE SAME WHEN IT COMES TO THIS. If Dell desides to make the crapy product and charge $69 to come to your home so that they can tell you its going to cost another $300 to repaire it, go ahead. but I would bet money that by the time it does get fixed you will be out over $600 (including best buys warrenty) and you will have only had your laptop fixed a few days sooner than what Best Buy could have had it done if you would have just let them fix it in the first place. Oh and by the way Best buy always gives you up to 14 days for repaires it ussually take a week or less. Also you dont sound very inteligent when you start throwing around the term rip off. The term rip off referse to when some one either pays to much for something (buyer beware) or is told falsifications about the thing he or she buys or is promissed things that dont acually happen. And I can guaranty that know one at best buy said they would fix any problem with your laptop without having to send it to a service center. Why dont you just admit that you dont know the first thing about computer repair and are jumping to conclusions. Would you get mad at your Dr. for refering you to see a specialist for bad ailment?... I didnt think so. So why on earth would get mad at a PC tech for doing the same.

#2 Consumer Comment

Unreasonable?

AUTHOR: jamesontaylorson - (United States of America)

I have on question for you. When, at any point, did the person who sold you this plan promise your computer would be magically repaired immediately on the spot?  I'll answer that for you, the person never said anything close to that.

Ok maybe two questions. You honestly think every single best buy carries motherboards for every single laptop they've sold in the last six years, let alone all the other parts that may be needed?  Even though I can tell your intelligence level is fairly low, I can't answer this one for you.  Just think about it for a while.  Where the hell would they put all these parts?  Of course dell can send somebody out next day, they deal with 1/10 the models of computers compared to best buy, they have parts on hand.

Your best buy warranty will cover a battery ($80), a power cord ($80), that motherboard (min. $250 parts and labor), and your inevitable hard drive failure ($260, new hard drive($80), installation($50), and installation of operating system($130)).  Congratulations, you are now over double the amount you spent on the warranty, thank you best buy.  Oh, but if you never use it they give you money back, weird.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

this is not a rip-off

AUTHOR: IntheKnow - (USA)

agree with the other posts.  as much as i would love to excoriate a BBY store or service contract, not this time.  you purchased year 1 accidental damage coverage plus 2 additional years.  you did not purchase 1 hour same day pick-up or express repairs.  of course they have to send it out for repair.  did you think there was no one else in the store and they had zero backlog of service requests and that a tech was going to open up your laptop in front of your eyes????  the world works a bit differently -  all your answers could have been obtained through forums or through some basic research PRIOR to your purchase.  Lesson learned.   BBY loves hook, line, sinker customers expecially when it comes to selling their service plans.
