I went to BestBuy where they have GeekSquad, and I wanted to get something in my computer fixed. I asked that I wanted to see if they can fix my computer fan, because I broke the blade when I was using an air compressor to take out the dust.

They said that they have to take it to the place it was built... I was thinking, why don't you fix it here... You say you know how to fix things.

They said it might cost up to $50 dollars or more... JUST TO FIX A FAN!!!

I was like ok. So I took my computer back home, and decided to get a replacement instead. And guess what? It was under $20 dollars!

Interesting..Very Interesting...

AUTHOR: Robert - Irvine (U.S.A.)

You are writing a report on the Geek Squad because they are "noobs" in your opinion. To the people who are not up on geek speak, a noob is generally someone who is not skilled at what they are doing and does not want to admit it.

But the reason you took your computer there in the first place is because YOU some how broke the fan when you were using an air compressor to clean the dust out??? Is it just me or does that seem a bit ironic.

Very sad

AUTHOR: Jocko - Biloxi (U.S.A.)

This is going to make me sound like a disgruntled ex employee but I am going to say this anyways. This is what happens when retail tries to get into the service side of the house. Best Buy / Geek Sqd do not pay good enough cash to get those who are real techs to work for them, they have a few real techs but sadly this is not the norm. Most of those guys behind the counter are students or people who have worked on their mothers computer. When Best Buy opens a new store they fill the Geek Sqd ranks with very motivated and mostly certified individuals but after a few months those who are the bean counters start screaming because they are not making enough profit at the store. This is exactly why they have warranty repair facilities, because their field agents can't even be trusted to mail out a PC let alone work on it. Its really sad, and true. The next time your at the geek sqd, ask them about certifications other than Best Buy store certs; you'll be surprised at how many are not........

In accordance with RipoffReport guidelines, I am stating that I believe this is a hoax. You have not provided a location, you mention the website when you say you visited a store, and you have no specific information.

Furthermore, most precincts will not replace parts like fans for you if they don't have the size in stock (and most not even then, because it's not common). In that situation they would tell you to go to the manufacturer, especially if you made it sound like you wanted free service.

Can you fix my laptop for free?

AUTHOR: Small Business Owner - (USA)

Wow, $50 whole DOLLARS!!!

I am a computer technician and have no love for the GeekSquad.  I concur with your labeling them a noobs.

Having said that, how much do you think it should cost to replace your fan?  I have a $60 dollar fee to pick up my screwdriver.  Assuming that I can buy a fan for $20 and it takes me 30 minutes to find the part, order the part, check in the part, open your case, unplug your old fan, plug in the new fan, close your case, plug in your machine, test your machine, document my time, call you, fill out your invoice, print your invoice, say pleasant things to you when you come to my shop and deposit your check, then your bill should be $80.  $40 for your fan and $40 for labor.

Complain about GS all you want, but don't expect them to fix your laptop for $30. (They wouldn't do it for that, but that's not my point.)
