My computer has a virus, it can be removed, but I just do not have the time, to do so, I take in my desktop to Best Buy, that has wedding pictures, children's pictures, 2006 thru 2008 income tax returns, personal documents, business documents, etc....etc....I ask for malware removal and back up,

I was told I would get my system back within a week, I tell the very young man to please call me if anything major must be performed, if they can't solve the problem, then I will take it somewhere else to get a 2nd opinion. No ne ever calls , it is the 4 days and nonone has worked on it, it is the 6th day and it is not ready, then it turns into the 7th day and no one can tell me what is wrong with it...an Agent told me that the back up is done. I can come to pick up.....once I left home to check it, there is nothing on it, they did not know that until I brought it back so they could look for themselves.

all my files GONE! just Gone! they wiped everything out and reinstalled Windows. I am having to start all over with my business and it has cost me so much time I do not have, and all they were able to give me was my $100.00 fee fornot backing the system up correctly. I shoul have just done it myself, then I would still have my life stored in a box.

Your fault.

Why have you not backed up all your stuff to a seperate hard drive before this happened. I guess you think this magic box can hold all your possessions and not be messed with. You must back up all copies to something else. I can't believe you put company files on the computer onlyand not somewhere else too. You were asking for disaster before it even happened. Quit blaming others for your ignorance. Best Buy is not at fault for losing your stuff. YOU are.

Customer was NOT ripped off, They are at fault for lost BUSINESS data that was NEVER backed up.

when you dropped off the computer you had to sign a data backup waiver form. There are four paragraphs that you have to read and check 4 boxes off after you read each one, then you sign and date the bottom of the form.

That form basically explains that they will attempt a data backup but it's not 100% that it can or will be done. It is your responsibility to keep your important files backed up. The waiver form specifically states that if your data is lost/not recoverable, Best Buy/Geek Squad are NOT responsible, they can only refund you the fee for the service which was not performed.

Sorry but no one is going to feel bad for you at this point.

How were you "ripped off"? You are filing a false claim and attempting to damage the reputation of a company that did nothing wrong. They refunded the money, the paperwork that you signed removes any legal obligation for Best Buy/Geek Squad to be held accountable for your lost data.

Only mistake was using Best Buy to begin with

The Geek Squad is typically incapable of fixing the root of the problem other than using a format/reinstall. We are told by managers to use this method as it is the fastest and most cost/time effective, and since you sign the paperwork when you come in, we aren't held accountable for anything that's lost. It's not about customer service unfortunately, only about money.
