After weeks of phone calls, and emails not returned.. We sent a FEDEX demand letter for the return of our data and hard drives. Fields returned the data originally without the physical disks sent them, in an unusable USB external drive with a UK power supply. We demanded our original disks back, and the data in US formatted power supply. Two more weeks passed, and we finally had to threaten them with formal criminal charges via the FBI’s St Louis field office. They seemed to respond to this threat and a properly formatted drive was sent with our original hard disks via UPS International 1 month after the drives were initially sent for recovery. The data was basically worthless at this time due to the delay. Calls to 1-866-879-1281 were never returned… Complaints were made to the Fields UK office, and to todd.taylor@fields-dat**.com. I called their neighbors and their landlord at 1001 Craig Rd., Suite 260. Turns out that this address is a group of executive offices. Although I cannot confirm this, I am very doubtful that this office contains a clean room for data recovery. It seems very likely that this is a collection center to have jobs sent to the Fields office in the UK, which is where the billing was done in British pounds. A complaint was filed with our credit card disputes department, documenting the above.. And I today received an email from Todd Taylor with Fields after reading my complaint filed here on the ripoff report website.    The original report was made before the phyical disks and data were returned to use.  While I still believe Fields to be basically a sham data recovery service.   The return of the data and hard disks, would preclude the filing of criminal charges via the US FBI.   No criminal charges were filed on our behalf..   A billing dispute is however pending with the credit card company, over this transaction.   Would highly recomend users finding a local data recovery service, and doing a bit of background research on any company prior to sending your data to them..   A google of "fields data recovery scam" would have saved me a lot of headaches.

I have also been ripped off by this company. They will not return my phone calls and have not recovered anything. They have taken my money and have run off with it and my hard drive data. I'm in the process of pursuing legal action. DO NOT trust this company! 

I too have used this company for recovery.  I own a computer repair company in the St Louis area and am able to drop-off and pick-up, locally.

The office is indeed a group of seemingly otherwise unrelated businesses sharing secretarial and phone answering services.  They recently expanded and moved (withing the same building) to a new and larger facility.  Fields itself seems to be on a different floor within that building.

I too have had my fill of problems with Todd Taylor and the lack of professionalism at the St Louis office.  So much so that I called the UK office and spoke to Andrew Liney.  After a series of eMails with Andrew, my issues were resolved to my satisfaction.  Plus I was given a $400 credit towards my next invoice.

I have dealt with this company over a dozen times in the past 18-months.   I don't know where they do their clean-room work, but my drives have not always been sent to the UK.  At least some work gets done locally.  And, their prices can't be beat!

In terms of success, they seem to be a bit better than my previous vendor and much better than the one before that (who never recovered anything).

I plan to continue using them for my client drives that need more recovery tools than I have in my shop.  It may not always be fun, but the same can be said for many of my vendors.  But, I've never found them to be a scam.

 

Would you care to state which company you work for so that people can know to avoid you like the plague?

I find the post regarding my consumer input to be offensive.  If this forum is to work, comments need to be constructive.  To ask me to provide my company name and to suggest my comments make my business practices questionable is nothing short of offensive. 

Perhaps in the United Arab Emirates one's reputation is not worth much.  In the enlightened world, we participate in forums such as this in order to "weed out the bad ones and leave the ground furtile for the good ones".  Mr UAE seems bent on doing the oppisite.  And, it's not appreciated.

I have worked in the DP, IS, MIS, IT industry since 1976.  I have been a mainframe programmer, a Computer Department Manager, a Corporate IT Director, General Manager and now an Owner of a computer maintenance and repair company.  With 35-years of success behind me, I take pride in my honest business practices.

This article was set-up as one person's facility to discuss their experience with a certain vendor.  Unlike Mr UAE, I do not intend to hijack it by including my company name and thus make it about my company.  I stand by my previous comments.

I see that you are based in the same city as Fields Data Recovery, and unlike me you don't have the balls to state who you are, you have simply replied with a standard line of corporate gibberish which says nothing except that you are adamant about defending your good friend Todd Taylor, and his fraudster colleagues in Wales.

This is a thread for reporting fraud, if you were the director of Fields Data Recovery I would understand why you might file a rebuttal - but why are you so adamant about defending their deplorable reputation?

I don't know what you mean by "hijacked", but as just mentioned this thread is for complaints about scams, I therefore find it suspicious why you are here to defend an alleged scam operation but refuse to mention your name and/or company.

If your reputation matters so much to you, why don't you state that your company is proud to be associated with Fields Data Recovery? Forget this "hijack" jibberish, you just won't come clean because I suggest that you are not a company director, and this is a shill post to try to mitigate the damage caused by scam reports such as the one above.

I also notice that your brain takes one year to register indignity, since that is the length of time it took to lodge your rebuttal.

1)  Nowhere do I see where you have identified your business (if indeed you are actually employed), as you have demanded I do.  Congratulations on following the websites instruction to "not sign your name, or include any e-Mail addresses in the report"... although, you did use your entire name in the registration and wrongfully indicated you were in the UAR.  I must say, details don't seem to be very important to you.  

2)  Not knowing your company (if indeed you are actually employed) makes it very possibly you are a competitor of Fields and are perpetuating this thread only for your own gain.  Since forums as this allow for such games, I tend to give the reported business the benefit of doubt.  And, if my experience differs from the Original Poster, I say so.   You, however, don't seem to have much to say on-topic, nor do you seem to be a very serious person.

Although I've not needed to have a client's drive recovered recently (beyound what I can accomplish in-house), I have seen nothing (anywhere) to dissuade me from using Fields services in the future.  That's not a tacit approval of their business practices, but rather doing what I feel is best for my business and clients.

Notwithstanding the obvious irony of furthering a discussion you do not wish to further, or your pig headed refusal to stare the facts I have presented in the face, the following applies:

1. Unlike you I don't have to hide my identity because I don't live in the shadows like a corporate stooge. As for the website rules: do you realise they exist to protect complainants from recriminations by insidious corporates and not the other way around? Or do you simply follow rules when they suit your purposes? As I have already explained, UAE was just above the UK - (not literally of course). By the way, well done on pointing out my lack of attention to detail, and then proceeding to spell UAE as "UAR" - a classic lack of irony, and geography, which hill-billy's like you are well known for. There is no UAR dummy.

2. Why would you assume that everyone is a corporate Steve Ballmer wannabe like you? Is that how you see the world, as one homogeneous long grey line of anaesthetised, soul-less grey men with sweaty arm pits, exchanging business cards and ranting about their boring IT companies until every vagina in the room has healed over? I couldn't give a toss about your 35 years experience working at PC world replacing broken video cards, or whatever the fk you do.

3. The topic is Fields Group, Fields Data Recovery scams, Rapid Data Recovery scams, fraud, rip off. Mentioning, as Fields have done that I am a "competitor of Fields" doing this for "your own gain", makes you even more suspect, since these are identical to the words Fields use to attack me. You and your "friends" (if you have any) simply refuse to face up to the suffering and chaos they have inflicted on thousands of people, with their sharp sales tactics and incompetent "data recovery" methods. Therefore you concoct these fantasies about rival companies employing me to speak out against their methods (I was scammed, the same as the original poster).

4. Everything I say is on topic; do you even know what the topic is? It is not "how wonderful Fields Data Recovery are". Actually, if your preference is for the latter, Fields have plenty of shill review websites with fake testimonials (actually not many, now that I had most of them removed) for you to post on.

5. Do I sound like I'm joking you obtuse corporate Muppet? I couldn't care less what you consider to be "reasonable". The evidence for Fields misdeeds are well known, and what I showed you was but a sample, yet your reasoning abilities seem conveniently absent when confronted with the hard evidence?

6. You need to answer the same questions you pose to me; what is YOUR interest in hyping up Fields, you could have easily added a testimonial to their swathes of fake reviews, but you instead chose to come here. Why would you be so committed to defending a company you claim to send hard drives to, and what's it to you if there are some complaints against them? You have gone out of your way to defend Fields. I would understand if you worked for them, but you are not even the original poster, you are not even a case updater.

7. It occurs to me that you may not wish the public to know that your company (if you have one) sends their hard drives to Fields?

8. When you describe your childhood in intimate detail, can't you see the tragic, Freudian irony of of a description which more aptly applies to the classic nerdy, sex starved, blotchy, overweight, unnecessarily ugly, computer geek, who lives alone, owns more computer games than a teenage Asian kid, and masturbates so much that he needs bi-focal lenses made by the same company which built the Hubble telescope?

9. You "are who you say you are" - but you have not said who you are! I still say that subtle clues give you away as a Fields stooge. You don't have the brass balls to post your name here, and if you did, the public would know that you send drives to Fields to be "recovered".

10. Perhaps you need stronger bi-focals, or new eyeballs. I showed you two links, one from a consumer expose on Fields Data Recovery shown on German TV, and another showing the 571 official (who knows how many unknown) complaints made against Fields Group, to Trading Standard in Wales (that's where they are based, as you are probably aware). Fields Data Recovery, Rapid Data Recovery, Data Phoenix, are apparently "trading names" and have never recorded a single tax dollar/pound in their annual accounts. What would you say of a company listed on the BBB, if it had 571 recorded complaints?

You now have constructive knowledge of Fields' disreputable business practices, regardless of your impaired vision, and by not taking the FACTS about this company seriously, I suggest you are protecting your own interests slightly more than those of your clients.
