From time to time, I used to get the same fake virus notifications on my computer. I would just delete them.

They looked like Microsoft but I just deleted them because I was afraid that they were loaded with spywear and other malware if I opened them.

I wish people wouldn't open these because if they fall for the initial scam --- when they send the money and try to download what they think is virus protection, they are probably getting another dose of OR malware--including the programs that will find your personal and financial information and relay it back to the sender/programmer. All kinds of stuff. Or maybe they aren't getting anything and they sent the money for nothing.

Which is why you need to get a pop up blocker from a reliable source to keep this stuff off your computer screen --hopefully.

You might want to take your computer to someone you trust to see exactly what was downloaded on it from your Soviet friends. Maybe nothing was downloaded.

In any case you learned a good lesson.
