I would like to support other claims that Compusa has rude employees (especially managers) and as a company is extremely unwilling to help customers once they have your money.

My friend in New York wanted to purchase me a cd burner (I have a Mac) for Christmas so he purchased and mailed a generously sized Compusa gift card (after seeing a variety of Mac external cd burners on Compusa's website). In addition, Compusa is basically the only large computer store in Anchorage. The website fairly clearly states that gift cards can NOT be used to make online purchases from the company. You can BUY a gift card online but you can't USE it online. That's crap but okay.

So I went to the only Compusa store, however the store did not have one single external cd burner for Mac. I explained my situation and asked if an order could be put in for this item. No, apparently thats against the rules. What's the difference if it's ordered at the store or online with a giftcard? And of course, I could not get money in exchange for my gift card which I would of turned around and used on Compusa's website. I could not get credit on a compusa credit card. No one, including managers had a single offer of suggestion. Just blank stares and a hurry to get away. I looked around a bit and then asked another employee if they thought the store would be getting any Mac compatible cd writers in soon. The employee said he doubted it and I asked why. He responded, "Because Compusa is stupid." At least he's honest.

So I called the national number and explained that the Anchorage store did not have a single Mac cd writer whereas there were many on the website leading my friend to believe the stores would carry at least some sort of similar variety here in Alaskas branch. She was extremely rude and with attitude snipped, "Just go to another store! Any store will have that!" Uh, did you listen to my story? I reasserted I live in Alaska and she sarcastically says "yeah you have a problem" and basically hangs up. Not a single employee I encountered this entire time had one suggestion or even the slightest indication of wanting to find a solution. All I wanted to do is buy one of THEIR products!

I returned the gift card to my friend in New York and by this time it's been 2 weeks (?) or whatever the time limit is (was not stated on website) and they won't refund his money on the gift card even with receipt. He wound up using the gift card himself, sent me the cash (which I didn't even WANT to accept at this point) and I purchased the cd writer and CompUSA got twice the money originally intended. I wish I'd gone somewhere else for my cd writer now but my friend really wanted me to get the one I picked out originally. Plus, I was tired of the whole issue.

CompCrap (as I now call them) may be the only large computer store in town but I no longer shop there.
