In March 2009, I applied for and received credit from Dell Financial to purchase a new laptop. After some serious research, In late June, I finally went on their site, www.dell.com, to order my laptop. The site couldn't locate my credit account, so I couldn't place my order. I logged on to Dell Financial Services and found my account to be valid and active, so I called Dell Sales to place my order.

After some strong armed sales tactics, we finally got to the payment part. The saleswoman informed me that my credit account was NOT activated and she will research it and call me back.

The next day she called back and told me that because I hadn't used my credit, Dell deactivated the card and if I still wanted to place my order, I'd either have to make alternate payment arrangements or reapply for credit.

I was shocked as it had only been slightly less than 3 months since I received the credit in the first place and informed the saleswoman that I did not want Dell to re-run my credit application, as that inquiry would decrease my credit score. She was dismayed that I wouldn't reapply for Dell credit but still wanted me to order the laptop. I told her that I didn't need the laptop that badly for them to re-run my credit application.

I think it's ridiculous for Dell to deactivate a credit card for not using it within 90 days! I don't use my other cards, sometimes for a year or so, and they don't cancel me! Why should Dell do that to people? It's ridiculous and it sounds like some sort of scam to me... do they get commission for every credit application they get???

commission

AUTHOR: Ashley - Springfield (U.S.A.)

Why would they get commission for a credit application? They don't make any money off them.

How long should a company keep a line of credit open for you? 90 days after you received the credit you had not used it? Why should the company continue to keep an open credit line with no charges on it? That's ludicrous.
