I brought my laptop, which is acer 6920g to intellect computers owned by Amir, about two weeks ago because I had a problem with the screen. I will now explain Amir’s point of view and mine. Amir is claming that the main motherboard is not working anymore because there is a spillage on it. But the fact is, the motherboard was working perfectly fine, I only brought my laptop to Amir because there was a fault on the screen nothing else, I used my HD TV as a screen for my laptop.

Amir’s argument is because the motherboard has a spillage (Some liquid form) on it, when they tried to change the inverter to fix the screen, it caused a short circuit  on the motherboard and damaged it. The reason why I am writing this because I have had a second opinion from another expert technician. I explained  to him what has Amir told me, and he said ' the motherboard wouldn't short circuit, because anything has dried up in it already and, has not caused a problem will not then cause a problem.

So basically, I don’t really know exactly what has Amir done to my laptop, he is not being honest with me and with his job, and I want my laptop back exactly how it was when I first handed to him to get it fixed.

#1 Consumer Comment

Here's some more information for you....

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

Liquid and electronics are a VERY bad combination.  The liquid will become a corrosive, white-blue, paste on the electronics.  The electricity and water (with it's impurities) are quite damaging. This type of damage is very distinctive and the cause is also obvious.

One thing I find odd about Amir's claim is they tried to replace the "inverter" and they hadn't done the prerequisite visual inspection before attempting any repair.  This is a given in the repair industry.

Your second "expert technician" was very much in error in what he told you.  It's true, the spill will pretty much dry up, but it will still absorb moisture from the air and continue it's corrosive action.  It will actually eat through component leads and circuit board foils.  This all occurs over time and is additive.

I spent 23 years as a senior technician in the consumer electronics industry and have seen this many times.

Many customers, especially if the unit was under warranty, deny that it could have ever happened.

Even if your computer is somehow made to work again, it may not be very reliable.

Your only alternative would appear to replace the board (too expensive) or replace the computer and keep the glass of water (soda) away from your computer.

Good luck and sorry you experienced this.
