To start, I recieved a letter from amerecord about a year ago. I was curious as to how they new me. I found out later they get your name from the copyright records.
I waited a while and considered the letter. Finally, I decided to submit 3 of my original songs. I received a letter from them right away oddly enough.
I was curious as to how they made a decision so fast. I had sent the packaged registered to verify the delivery date. Coincedently, They sent their letter out the same day they recieved the package.
Still, I was pretty confident that my music is some of the best to come along in quite some time. So, I thought that they knew immediately or something like that.
I was still supicious though. The letter that they sent me offered a recording contrat that was pretty fancy looking I quess. I started to read it and was somewhat excite to get a response.
I was liking most of the terms seem really reasonable offer a 3,000 dollar bonus, 5,000 dollars each time it was used on TV or Radio, and a percent of royalties on each album sold. They ask in the contract for pre-production cost of $416.00 (I think thats close at least)
At first, I wasn't too sure about the money to be paid to them. I found it strange but these are strange days. I continued to read the contract and examine and consider every detail.
I found the catch to their scam. You see, thier real nice and offer you a refund if production does not occur. That sound good. Next, they offer also to return your money after production of the cd with a $3,000 bonus included.
The catch is in the wording. After the first 10,000 copies are sold they pay you that amount supposedly. So, I decided to check their status with the better business bereau (sorry I didn't know about you guys at the time.). They had a questionable record.
I research further and found out they had done the same scam to many others. The use the same album name for everyone they scam. Apparently, they have use that album title hundreds of times. I can't remember exactly what it was.
Something like Star America, I can't recall. I'll probably remember later. Any rate, It really wasn't a very impressive title to start with. When I researched it I found they have made hundreds of copies with the same title but the next higher number on each one they do.
That is truly sad. Needless to say, I tore up the contract and moved on. I was extremely angry that they would waste so much of my time with an obviously deceptive and potentially enticing scam.
I would really like to see them put out of business. My wasted time is minimal compare to the money they have stolen from other people eager to be recognized.
The funniest part is. I spent about 400 dollars and bought some additional equipment. I found some great deals and two months later now I am able to do every phase of production from play every track myself to designing original labels for my disc, including disk trayliners and booklets.
My advice to others who are proposition by them would be to throw it in the trash. It worse than pornographic spam on the web. My loss is minimal. If I can prevent others from being conned, I hope that I can. And feel free to contact me.
