I fell for this scam today as well. I was driving up to park so that I could use the ATM and deposit my checks. This car drives up on the wrong way and asks me if I spoke italian. I actually did since I am italian descendant. Next thing you know, he gives me the story about flying out to italy tonight and he had some jackets he wanted to "give me" as a gift. He said to just help him out with anything so that he could pay for his car rental.

I am a nice person, so I told him I'd help him out. I should have known something was up because he kept saying that he couldn't afford the taxes when getting to italy and that he had spent all of his money in a casino. But I just kept thinking, he's a nice guy, and he also showed me his passport quickly and what looked like to be a plane ticket.

So to make a long story short, I gave him USD 225.00. He in turn, gave me 4 leather jackets and 2 suede ones. In fact, I didn't really care about the jackets, I was just gonna help him out. The guy even wrote down his phone number in italy. I never fall for this type of stuff, this is my first time. But I did think this was a true story, because when I said I'd offer to help him, his eyes got watery. The guy even tried to give me a hug. But italians are that way you know? Anyways, it's ok, I make really good money so that's not an issue for me. But I'd hate to see others get ripped off who work so hard for their money.

The guy is a bastard though, because I thought he really needed help but he would rip off someone that is descendant from his own country. Last year, I tried to help a homeless person by giving them food that I bought just for them, it wan't touched by me. The person instead got mad at me and said they wanted money instead. I guess I should just stop helping strangers!
