American Famjily Insurance Refuses to pay claim, Internet

American Family Insurance was my homeowners insurance company for 20 years. They cancelled me after I reported a loss.

On August 13,2010 lightening hit my home and caused a fire. The damage was extensive but not a total loss. On August 15,2010 there was another fire, cause unknown.The home was a total loss.

The fire marshall's report said the second fire was arson. American Family had to do an investigation. I had to do a sworn statement under oath.

After 5 months they were still claiming to be investigating. Then I receive a letter stating they are filing a declaratory judgement to determine coverage.

They deliberately delayed settling the claim so I would not hire an attorney. I believed them when they kept saying it was okay and not to worry. It was just taking time to investigate everything.

I am a disabled widow. I have lost my home. They will not even pay the mortgage so I am losing my property also.

I have had to hire an attorney that will take one-third of whatever I get, if anything.

Do not buy American Family Insurance. They are liars and do not want to pay a legitimate claim. I jumped through hoops to cooperate with them and all along they planned to do this.
