I received a letter in the mail from Midtown Web Marketing, 1430 Broadway, Suite #14E, NY,NY 10018 with a Cashiers Check for $3,493.00 instructing me to become a secret shopper and evaluate local businesses including Walmart, Sears, Home Depot, Victoria's Secret, JCPenney, K-Mart, ToysRus, Dillards or Macy's.

The return address on the envelope was PO Box 509 STN D, Scarborough, ON M1R5L7.

The first requested assignment was to deposit the check and wait two days for the check to clear, then go to my local MoneyGram and send $2,993.00 to Darren Bolt, 359 Green Lanes London, London, England or Cecil Adams, 404 Edgware Road Paddington, London England.

I was also instructed to call Adrian Johnson at 403-835-3216 if I needed any further clarifications.  Of course I already knew this was a scam so I didn't need to call.

A market report form was also included instructing me to shop with $100 of the remaining money and evaluate the store then send the enclosed market report form to 718-208-4022.  The rest of the check was mine to keep....so they said.

The check looks authentic but of course it doesn't have a logo on it.  It is from First Bank & Trust...a pretty generic bank name with Branch # 1003 written on it.  The remitter is Russell McAdams.

The letter is signed by Venessa Frances, Director of Human Resources.

#1 Owner of Company

Scammers Used Our Business Name Fraudulently on a Form Letter

AUTHOR: Michael - (United States of America)

I am one of the owners of Midtown Web Marketing.  We are a web agency located in Manhattan and not a secret shopping company.  We are in excellent standing with the Better Business Bureau - http://www.bbb.org/new-york-city/business-reviews/internet-marketing-services/midtown-web-marketing-llc-in-new-york-ny-109388/

Someone from Canada has used our business name fraudulently on a mass form letter in an attempt to get people to cash money on a bad check.  Note that the contact phone numbers and address do not match those on our website - www.midtownweb.com.  If you have received one of these letters, please contact your local law enforcement.

Thank you.
