From reading the other posts regarding SMC, you may notice that if you do not cancel your membership within 30 days of first contact, you will be forced to pay yearly membership fees of approx. $500 for life (or until you manage to jump through the series of hoops that some on this very website have taken two to three years to accomplish). Trust me, a company that has resorted to these kinds of actions aren't going to give you a grace period simply because you didn't receive the information in the first place. I can about guarantee you that they are just waiting for that 30 day period to lapse so that they can start merrily charging your credit card or bank account at will.
You need to contact your bank and credit card company TODAY. Inform them that you have been defrauded and wish to open an immediate dispute on the amount already charged to your account so that you get that $134 back. Remember, SMC can give you the runaround all day, knowing that you will eventually get tired of it. But the second you let your card company know that they ripped you off, they can (with a few keystrokes; trust me, I've worked in this field before) do a 'chargeback' of the transaction...essentially, SMC's account gets charged that same $134, and that money goes back to you. If SMC refuses to pay that money, all your card company has to do is threaten to refuse future service to SMC, and SMC will bow out graciously.
Remember, SMC is going to give you all kinds of trouble...so just ignore them. Send them a letter via Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested, insisting that they stop charging you, cancel your membership immediately, and stop any attempts to collect. Make sure to use the words "cease and desist" and "as per the Fair Debt Collections Act," (you may want to look this Act up to know what your rights are first), so that they know you mean business. At this point, if they start calling you (since by now your bank will not honor any transaction they try to send through) to collect money, they are at that point violating the terms of the FDCA and are subject to legal penalties.
But anyway, if you act quickly, you can get every cent back that you ever sent to SMC. And don't even consider becoming a member...any company that makes YOU pay THEM so that you can be an employee is not legit...and anyway, being a publicly traded company, if these products really did "sell themselves," they would be selling them, not nicely "passing the opportunity to sell onto you." These products are not worth it, and SMC knows it. The only money made here is by SMC, and trust me, they are making a whole lot of it, and almost every dollar they bring in is from people who don't know what their rights are. So take action NOW, because every day could be another great deal of money you will lose to SMC.
