As a former employee at the A.D.A.P.T. Facility in Wilmer, Tx I noticed many events and concerns that the public should be aware about. While employed at the facility, I noticed that medication was not properly supplied to the residents in a timely manner. I know of two incidents to my knowledge where EMS had to be called to take residents to the hospital due to not receiving their medication. I also witnessed a monitor "withhold" water priviledges from the residents. I also encountered racial harrassment by other employees when I became aware of these conditions.

I eventually voluntarilly left the facility, and the director herself never even followed up on why I left or the conditions of why I left. In conclusion, I am a humane individual, the residents in that facility are on probation but also have mental illnesses. They are in my opinion being greatly mistreated. Not only through withholding medication, but hygeine products, cleaning conditions, food, and water consumption. I had no issues with the residents/inmates there....but rather with the unprofessional staff that was in charge.

I only am reporting this as I have reported it to upper management and nothing has changed to the facility to my knowledge. My hope is that somebody out there has enough heart to see that this recovery facility "poses" as a great recovery center.....when in fact...the residents will tell you....they would rather go back to jail! Working there was an "eye-opener" as to how recovering inmates are treated....and how the system isn't always at work in the best interest of the residents. I sincerely hope that it is looked into and inmates are sent elsewhere so that they may recover in a more positive atmosphere.

Unethical

AUTHOR: Wounded_healer - Wilmer (U.S.A.)

I work at the facility in question, and although there are still some issues currently undealt with, Adapt & Staff Officials are attempting to make positive changes for the better. While there are still some kinks to be worked out, many changes have taken place in the short time I have been here. Change takes time and it is a process I see the staff working on.

I have never seen a resident denied food or water. As for the medication, again many details have been taken care of. Occasionally a client does run out of meds and this cannot always be avoided. Precautions are taken to avoid a gap in medication and the nurse is notified a week in advance of medications running low. However Adapt does their best to meet all the needs of the clients and it is not the fault of the Adapt if EMS must be called. Small hygiene packets are given to new clients arriving and no one is ever denied anything that can be provided by Adapt or is within our means to provide.

There are no inmates here. Inmates are in jail. These are residents or clients that have come from jail, however we do not refer to them as inmates.

As for your racial complaint... I will agree with you. There is an underlying current of racial favortism present. I feel it primarily among staff, but again, I believe there is attempts underway to deal with this and avoid future issues from occuring. Change cannot happen overnight.

Your statement of "inmates wanting to return to jail"...There may be some residents who desire to return to jail, certainly, but that would probably be because those particular individuals are resistent to change and would rather prefer sleeping all day in a jail cell, without being held accountable or responsible for anything, including changing their lives. It's much easier to lay around and do nothing just killing time till you can hit the streets again and return to the life you once owned. However, that statement cannot be reasonably applied to every client housed in the Adapt facility.

I believe this is a great facility and the program works for those who work it. If you put nothing into this recovery program... you will get nothing out of it or in return....the same can be said for anything in life. A positive enviroment is fostered by most employees here, and the ones who do not foster encouragement or positve reinforcement will eventually weed themselves out. There are those here who are working hard to bring about change and make this facility the best it can be. The clients are the most important focus and I believe they are receiving fair & proper treatment. For the employees that have dropped the ball and aren't applying themselves or everything they should be..well, the rest of us pick up the slack so that the clients receive the proper encouragement, positive feedback, respect and truth available by us. Just like life..it is a process. It is my hope that these indiviuals who are falling short of the mark are weeded out soon so that these clients can continue to grow and move to the next phase of their lives a little healthier and hopefully more mature than before they came here.
