Rip-off Report found that most complaints about DirectBuy were made by non-members who were critical of the cost of membership and the policy that a decision about membership must be made the same day of the open house visit. The policy is there to protect the manufacturers. It ensures their confidential pricing cannot be used by non-members to negotiate better deals with retail stores, thereby protecting the best possible pricing to members. The policy has not changed, but as stated above, new tiers and terms of membership are being offered at participating club locations

Direct Buy, Mississauga pressure sales method - unexistant service - fraud - lies - Not keeping promises - Dodgy company Mississauga And Barrie Too!!! Ripoff Ontario Canada

Prior to my site visit, I was never told that membership cost is high (over $4000 up front); when visited the site I wanted to think about the offer, was pressured to sign right away, or the offer would be null and void. The sales person really played with my emotions and made lots of promises. So i signed and gavce 900$ up front. I don't think I will ever see that money again. The rest is financed at high rates. If I failed to pay, it will ruin my credit rating. I am really scared of that. I tried on numerous occasions to use mymebership and purchase stuff and in all cases I was unsuccessful!!! 1st time: the DB cost was actually higher than the retailer price! 2nd time: I was unable to bring my friend to help chossing between a "wide variety" due to confidential -secrecy liability (whatever... the clerk was just plain rude, I can undertsand a lot of stuff, but I don't need attitude...) 3rd time: I did not got help and could not meet a clerk for the love of money to order after spending 3 hours looking in catalogues to buy tires, lawnmower and snow blower. 4th time: I actually was able to pass the order, but the clerk made a mistake and I received a phone call 10 days later (not the following day, but actually nearly 2 weeks after paying!!!) that the order was still not processed and that there were extra charge that I should have seen... Though they actually pay a clerk to pass the order. I should have passed the oder myself then!!! They refused to a least apologise for the inconvenience, they told me "we have been growing for the last 34 years and this situation is extremely rare, it is NOT our fault". They agreed to cancel my order BUT I am still waiting for my money back (after a full week... it takes 2 minutes to cancel a Visa purchase...) I filled a complaint through the BBB and I am really upset.

Totally True - Membership fee at direct buy is $5000

I recently joined direct buy after reading all the warnings about joining. I thought I could beat the odds and win here because I recently purchased a old house I was totally renovating. I have save but not at the level promised.

Heres is the deal. The only real savings you will see at direct buy is on appliances.
I recently bought 7 appliances - all GE profile. Fridge (PGS1PJXSS), wall oven (PCT916SMSS), microwave with trim kit (JEB186SCNSS), Electric cooktop (JCP346SMSS), dishwasher (GLD8312PSS), warming drawer (PTD915SMSS)....Total price $7066 taxes included. Retail these might be around $14000...but you might decrease this to about $9K or $10K if you catch the sales. So I got the membership fee back, but that was after spending days on end going back and forth to retail stores....then finding out direct buy only had partial access to some brands. If I were to put a cost to my time, I spent retail.

If you are not buying appliances, don't even bother joining. The best you could hope for is to pay the same money for a slightly better product. In many cases they are not dealing with manufacturers, but distributors, so on the products you might really want, you will never see the savings.

When I joined, they promised a 63% saving off retail (not a specific brand) on my kitchen. I got 3 quotes prior to Joining ($19K, $19K, $25K). Two were from custom cabinet makers, the other from LOWES. At direct buy they carry 3 brands Cabico, kitchen kraft, and kraft maid. Cabico was equivalent to the cabinets I wanted. After the kitchen was designed the cost came to $15, 700 +designer fee of $1350 + a handling fee of $1200 +installation of $2500 = $20750. Because I had already paid for the membership and the designer fee....I decided cut back on the kitchen and take out some components and proceeded with the order $12, 700 +designer fee of $1350 + a handling fee of $1000 +installation of $2500 = $17, 550.

I should have canceled because after complaining about the cost and delays in delivery time, the manager and the customer service manager started giving me the cold should. Its a really small shop so they gossip like nobody's business. At least at home depot you complain to a manager they have to listen. After direct buy gets your membership fee you are on your own.

I bought pot lights....the customer service rep misinterpreted the order....so I missed her oversight and waited 4 weeks only to find out I got 5 pot lights instead of 30. When I ran out to home depot they had a different brand at a much lower price $8.00 lower.

I wanted hardwood...but found a better deal outside.

I did save $900 on 2 windows that I order though.

Right now I am ahead about $4000.00.

Direct buy has some of the poorest customer service I have ever experienced. Home depot may be cheap and common but they assist you and they treat you nicely. Furthermore, the ability to see a product in real life and time, point to it, order it, and have it delivered or picked up the same day is PRICELESS.

Make you own minds up.....but unless you skull is empty and not a think in life matters to you.....DO NOT JOIN DIRECT BUY.
