Rip-off Report Investigation:

EDitor’s UPDATE: Positive Rating and Recognition has been given to DirectBuy for its Commitment to Excellence in customer service.

Rip-off Report’s investigation of DirectBuy uncovers an ongoing commitment to total client satisfaction. This means that clients can expect the company will always work towards finding a mutually satisfactory resolution to any complaints or concerns in the past, present or future. DirectBuy pledges to help members and guests realize their dreams through exceptional customer experiences and unparalleled savings, service, and selection.

The Rip-Off Report Investigation revealed a demonstrated commitment by DirectBuy to providing excellent customer service and resolving customer issues. They achieve this through several means, including a recent partnership with customer service experts to actively survey their members and guests and make changes that improve their processes and ensure a uniform exceptional experience for every customer. To address the most common concerns, DirectBuy recently started offering free trial memberships at participating club locations, as well as additional tiers and terms of membership to meet a broader range of household budgets.

The Investigation also showed that DirectBuy members are renewing their memberships at record rates, indicating members are still very satisfied with the value they receive through DirectBuy’s home furnishings and home improvement products and services. DirectBuy is one of the largest consumer buying clubs of its kind, and we are convinced they are dedicated to using feedback from customers to continually improve their policies and procedures.

One DirectBuy executive explained about their many changes stating, “We have a team of service support specialists available specifically to address concerns from members and guests who visit Rip-Off Report. We want to ensure that their experiences with DirectBuy are positive, whether they join or not." Should you require this assistance, please contact them at DirectBuyHELP@directbuy.com Provide your name, the date of your issue, and the name of the location you visited. If you are a member, please include your member number if available.

Given DirectBuy’s commitment to excellent customer service, they were alarmed by some of the complaints lodged with Rip-off Report. Rip-off Report found that most complaints about DirectBuy were made by non-members who were critical of the cost of membership and the policy that a decision about membership must be made the same day of the open house visit. The policy is there to protect the manufacturers. It ensures their confidential pricing cannot be used by non-members to negotiate better deals with retail stores, thereby protecting the best possible pricing to members. The policy has not changed, but as stated above, new tiers and terms of membership are being offered at participating club locations

DIRECT BUY recognizes that complaints posted on Rip-off Report (true or not) are issues that need to be addressed and if handled correctly can be valuable learning opportunities. With the feedback generated by Rip-off Report’s Investigation DirectBuy has made the necessary organizational changes to allow their members a more streamlined approach to problem resolution and a total overall commitment to customer experience. As one senior executive stated, “We have learned that even the most committed companies can make mistakes, but if you really pay attention, you can learn from them. We’ve adjusted policies to please both members and manufacturers, and we hope that anyone who has further suggestions on how we can improve our services will contact us with their ideas.”

In summary, after our investigation, which included discussions with DirectBuy Senior Management, Rip-off Report is convinced that the company has been and is committed to quality delivery of services resulting in total client satisfaction.

Directbuy Of Nassau County ripoff Westbury New York

I responded to an open house presentation at Directbuy of Nassau County and was met with a high pressure sales pitch to purchase a 4768.00 membership. After threatening that I will never be permitted to join if I walked away from the sale, I decided to join. However, I told the sales person that i believed i had 3 days to think about it and i would be back if i decided against it.

I purchased the membership on a Saturday 7/1/06. They were closed on Sunday and Monday and Tuesday was a holiday 7/4/06. I returned to their office on Wednesday, the first buisness day after the sale and requested that my membership be cancelled. the sales person told me that this would not be possible and wanted to talk about why I changed my mind.

Since I was in no mood for small talk, I again requested that my membership be cancelled, as I was within the 3 day grace period. It was then, and only then, that the sales person told me that the membership could not be cancelled and they do not adhere to the 3 day rule.

I immediately left their office, contacted my credit card company and informed them of my intention to disupute the charges. I am presently in the process of disputing these charges and I am determined to win.
If anyone has successfully fought these people, please respond to my story and tell me yours. I am hoping the credit card company has more muscle than I do.

Document everything

AUTHOR: Alan - Minneapolis (U.S.A.)

Hello Carla, You may want to contact an atty. that deals in contract law. And document all your contacts with Direct Buy, things like when you called even what time. This will be needed as proof that you tried to cancel within the 3 days, as Direct Buy will say that you took longer. And yes talk to your credit card company, and maybe some good people with experience in these matter will also chime in on this board and help out. Stick with it you have a good chance of winning.

How do you know something is a ripoff, unless you use it?

AUTHOR: B - Oakdale (U.S.A.)

I am a Member of Directbuy in nassau county, and from the information you gave, it sounds like i joined around the same time that you were in. In the first year of membership, I was able to save $9200 on furniture and flooring for my home, and i paid a membership fee of roughly $4800.

With this in mind, how is it fair to call this club a ripoff? From the day i joined to the present, they have done nothing but help me finish and furnish my home, I have no complaints at all! I was refered by friends of ours and they saved over $50,000 doing the renovations on their home. To call something you havent even tried a ripoff is completely unfair, and on top of that, you are taking money out of the pockets of people that could use this service and benefit from it.

If you go to Directbuy, go in with an open mind. You will have to make a decision that day! If it seems like a good idea, it probably is, as it was for me. If not, at least you gave it a fair try. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for posting

AUTHOR: Scott - Carle Place (U.S.A.)

I am in the process of a home remodel project and I saw the advertisements on TV. I figured I would call them and give them my information. Now that I have read all this stuff I won't set one foot near them. Not like I can afford a $5000 membership right up front. Maybe if it was a couple hundred dollars I would think about it.

This sounds too good to be true and from the amount of reports it sounds like it is. Unless you are a millionaire.

Check Your Contract

AUTHOR: The - Palatine (U.S.A.)

Please check your contract. I believe they are all the same from state to state. There is a section on there where they put the date of the purchased contract, then they write in the box the amount of days you have to cancel. They always put in (3) days unless you have a special agreement with the owner, then your rep will write in a different number. If my memory serves me correctly you "initial" this to show that you are aware of this contractual agreement. The reps are instructed to breeze by this "small"section because they do not want people getting home and having buyers remorse and then cancelling.

File a written formal complaint with the "Attorney General's" office. Then file a written formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Bombard them, they will get twisted in their lies, you watch. The "buck" stops here DirectBuy !!! Rally together, no more "bucks" for DirectBuy !!!
